Cycle Lights

With still some months until its bright again at 5am, I need to invest in a cycle light for road use. I have read some of the past topics here and there is just soo much info which makes it difficult to make a decision, but the extreme light stuff seem to be good value for money.

Looking at the page, the below comes to mind. I don't really want to spend more than 1k on something.

Anyone using the XP1 light and whats your opinions on it ?

Just really need it for about 45mins to an hour, but would like to get something of good quality that will serve me for a few years.

Thanks.

Hi. I recently bought the XP1. The short answer is... get it! You will not be dissappointed. IMO, the build quality is superb, it is local, service is great, etc. I use it for exactly the same purpose and am glad that I chose it and would highly recommend it.

Knog blinder white on front and red on rear (very important on road in early am or late pm)

couldn't imagine why I would want a massive headlamp on a road bike unless the roads are super rural

USB rechargeable and last almost all day (or night)

Exactly this.

I have one of the more expensive lights from a supplier of 8.4v lights.

The 1600 lumen advertised by Craig is just as good, half the price and lasts the same time.  Can charge with a normal charger.

Why buy anything else?  And I use my lights a plenty!!!

thanks Daz and Sepia. Picked up the zoom from Craig a short while ago. Will serve as a hiking light also so saves me some cash from buying a new headlamp.

At first glimpse, build quality feels good & solid. The zoom is firm so no creeping while on the go.

used the light this morning on a ride around Bluff. No issues to report. The light is great, has a good wide coverage which covers about 3.5-4m, and its Super bright !

The Knog blinder back light is probably the best in my opinion, that is where it stops the straps are useless they break after 2 or three months, I use mine daily on two commutes but that should not make a difference.  The warranty is good provided you have the broken unit, I have lost two due to breaking off while riding- no warranty then.

On the bike Extreme light for sure . I drowned mine in the river and it still worked perfectly after that . On helmet the Led Lenser P7 , but battery life not very good . The ability to focus with this light (Broad to narrow beam) is a very nice must have feature .

I like the ability to zoom/focus the beam on LED lensers. I use a M7R on my bars and when needed, a H14 headlamp on my helmet. The H14 has the same zoomable light unit as the M7. The M7R runs about 3h on full, powered by a single rechargeable Li-ion battery....

The H14 takes 4x AA rechargeable cells and also runs several hours on full power. A rechargeable H14R version is available with built in recharging
