Tyres bleeding Stans

Want to know whether anyone else has experienced this:

My tyres 'weep' tyre sealant, little dots in a pattern that matches the casing weave on the sidewalls.

The tyres are Specialised Butcher and Ground Control, front and back respectively. And are about six months old, maybe 3 000 km. With reasonable tread depth on top.

The sealant was replaced just before J2C, and I assume it was Stans, but haven't confirmed this.

They hold pressure okay-ish, need a pomp or two once a month.

Weird or normal?

I have had the same problem with all the Spez tires I have had so far except for 1 that is the Slaugther in Grid casing.None of my other brand of tires have done this. But does not faze me as I will still use their tires.

My Spez tyres also do this but they are light and affordable and grip better than most others I've tried....and they last surprisingly well.

You can stop the weeping by adding more sealant. This will provide a fresh supply of latex to seal the pores in the sidewall. Also, after adding sealant and inflating, be sure to spin the tyres horizontally so the sidewalls get wetted with the fresh stuff....then pump up to about 3 bar. Leave overnight and deflate to normal riding pressure the next morning.

My COntis also did this - but only near the end of their lifespan. Wasn't too much of a [problem, except for more regular topping up.

I think pressure on manufacturers to keep the tyres light is adding to the problem. My UST Ardents were heavy but they never leaked through the sidewalls and held pressure for almost a year of riding

The thing is...... Stans is a suspension of raw latex particles in some or other liquid. Ammonia in the Stans prevents the latex congealing until it is exposed to fresh air (via the outside of a puncture or pore).

With age and sidewall flex, once the tyre sidewalls get porous and leak, we keep adding fresh air to the tyre by pumping it. This eventually dilutes the ammonia in the Stans and it starts to congeal the latex everywhere. At this point the sealant is basically ineffective and the tyre keeps weeping the carrier liquid but it does not seal the holes effectively because all the latex has already congealed on the inside of the tyre or in a rubber bolletjie.

So....after that long story....its a good idea to take off the tyre, clean it out and remount with fresh sealant when the sidewalls start weeping. Lotta work but better than reverting to tubes.

For a quick fix you can simply add sealant but it eventually accumulates into a ball. Either way you'll need to do it every 3 to 6 months if the sidewalls keep weeping.

Are they Protection models?

I've had exactly the same on Conti's (Mountain King, X King and Race King) - different sets and all of them Protection.

I have this problem with one out of three Schwalbe Rocket Ron Snakeskin Tubeless Tires. It looks bad, but the tire does not lose much pressure at all. The tire was fitted in January and started a few weeks ago. Sealant is Stans.
