also have a few small cuts similar to these on my gatorskins. Does not go through the sidewall though, have done about 2000km on them since and had no issues.

A drop of super glue on the frayed ends also helps to stop it from spreading.

super glue is hard and cracks easily, something stronger like pratley would probably be a better option.

It seems to have worked so far for me although it's all I had on hand at the time.

Yhea, turned around to talk with the rider I was with and then hit the stone :cursing:.

Thanks for the responses. I don't know what a gator is (and google is not helping out) but I will just go to my LBS and ask them for one.

I think most people just use a heavy duty tube patch or else any random piece of sturdy rubber with some rubber cement to hold it in place. (Obviously stuck to the inside of the tyre!)

Hi Gary

I'm glad you're in SA and not Mississippi or you'd not know whether to go to the bike shop or the taxidermist  :D

Never be afraid to ask the question (despite the ridicule sometimes)

The most stupid question is the one not asked

Gator patch

post-61682-1438699044,4958.jpg

1 - tyre glue inside sidewall and on the inside of the gator patch

2 - push spike thru hole

3 - allow to dry, then trim the spike

4 - refit tyre to the back wheel and ride

Get them at any tyre repair or decent 4x4/camping place. Maybe also your LBS but they may prefer to scare you into buying a new tyre.

Unlucky - stick a gator on the inside and it'll serve you well until it's bald.

Or take a tube patch and glue (vulcanise) it inside the tyre. Then superglue the casing on the outside with shoegloop

All my mates have gone to gatorskins and had punctures and issues almost weekly, I just keep on with my Vitoria tyres, not a single puncture in over a year.

It can be circumstantial for sure

Enough of my training buddies have opted for alternative brands after complaining about the toughness of Gator'

I use Conti' tubbies for racing

Schwalbe for training

No complaints on either front

Oh boy, you're doomed now...

Agreed, rookie mistake taking on Murphy like that ;)

I got cocky once and claimed I hadn't had s puncture in 2 years, I was rewarded with 8 in my next 6 rides. Also Contis.

Does anyone repair punctured road tubes, as I've had absolutely no joy with this practice in the past. If so is there some trick i'm missing as tubes are getting a little pricey lately.

Have to admit that I've gone completely away from gatorskins, may be a perception issue but just seemed to have endless issues with them, sidewall slices and fraying added I don't think they provide any better puncture resistance to alternate brands out there.
