Ferret..you killing the mileage! what you planning on peaking at per week?

and who is James Whitaker? also putting some big miles in

Yeah should finish Jan with around 400, few more than planned but so far so Good.

You also building up nicely

Probably looking to max out with 2 or 3 weeks in April at around 125-130s

JW is a mate of mine, we do a our Long Sunday runs together

He's just finishing a 16 weeks block to go Sub3 @ Sasolburg...  That's why I traded out to do JC and then pace him through halfway at Sasolburg in 87ish..

thanks - legs are tired as i increase the mileage, but i reckon its worth it. pushing for hillcrest on v day..that gives me 2 more weeks after this week which I will probably hit 80 to 90 per week and then have easiesh week before the marathon. last year I did 280km in january...i reckon I am heading for about 300 to 320 this year

Here is the plan :

31/01 - Johnson`s 42 - qualifying

13/02 - Bronkhorst 32 - Simulation race pace

28//02 - Delloitte 42 - Just HTFU and time on the legs - no racing

05/03 - Sunrise Monster 32 - HTFU and time on the legs- no pace

16/04 - Om die dam Ultra - Check out the expected race pace

01/05 - Wally 42 - Expected race pace -15sec/km

29/05 - Race day - HTFU, KD factor and get it done.

I have 1 or 2 backups for qualifying in case something goes wrong. Dont want to have to race anything longer than 21 after March. Well, thats the plan.

Good strategy there. Please update the spreadsheet as I unfortunately don't have time to update everyone's.

Sounds Good, 300-320 in Jan is Solid, last year I only did 240kms myself in January and just under 1300km to Comrades... So I'm also stretching the limit a bit this year trying to find 33mins

Good Luck for hillcrest, what kind of time are you looking for?

just going for a sub 3:30 at the moment. I figure if I can do that then a 3:20 is possible for pmb...but I will be more than happy with a c batch start again

Sub3.30 is a great run

Batching at Comrades is irrelevant... Front of C or Back of B very similar

If anything the C batch will help to go off conservatively, just don't lose too much time to cross the line..

I have a A seeding but I will either start at B or at the very back of A.

ja - I actually started back of D batch last year so i could start with some mates...probably helped me negative split...but there was a bit of a hold up so I reckon C is ideal

Info on the Route Tester seems hard to come by at the Moment apart from its starting in PMB on the 17th April and heading to Hillcrest Harriers clubhouse on the Comrades Route

If you get any more substantial info around times, etc etc please let me know,.

We are gonna hire a Little Bus and come down from JHB with 12-15 of us so far...

Ferret, I believe Westville have their long run (route tester) scheduled for April 17th. There will probably be some clubs running on the 16th and some on the 23/24 too. Westille, Pinetown, Chiltern, Stella, Savages, DHS Old Boys & Queensburgh all usually plan a run and often some clubs band together to assist on the water tables. Most clubs will cater for "outsiders" for a nominal fee.

Just ensure you know the route. a few years ago a couple jhb chaps missed the left turn to Camperdown just after Umlass road and started to head for Richmond.
