Ferret, I believe Westville have their long run (route tester) scheduled for April 17th. There will probably be some clubs running on the 16th and some on the 23/24 too. Westille, Pinetown, Chiltern, Stella, Savages, DHS Old Boys & Queensburgh all usually plan a run and often some clubs band together to assist on the water tables. Most clubs will cater for "outsiders" for a nominal fee.

Just ensure you know the route. a few years ago a couple jhb chaps missed the left turn to Camperdown just after Umlass road and started to head for Richmond.

lol

dhs old boys is always a good one...or..of course some of us locals could join you guys and do our own route tester

I can confirm that DHS Old boys will be running it on the 17th April.

Although I live in JHB now I went to DHS so I still get their Old Boy news letters and info. Strangely enough the calendar was sent out from them this morning

This is the Link I have

http://www.collegiansharriers.co.za/arthur.htm

Seems to be organised by Collegian harriers and Hillcrest Villagers

From info above, probably the same Long Run

Below was the Info for the 2015 one, this year obviously goes the other way for the Down

I do however find that Point Interesting.

To estimate your Comrades finishing time

take your recent 42.2km time and multiply by 2.42.

In that Case I should be aiming for 6h41 haha

OK, so my qualifier has been moved out. Injury killed my December training and now after a visit to the podiatrist, and some very expensive orthotic inserts in my shoes, I feel like I'm starting all over again

I know how you feel. Spend November and December out with Whooping cough. Still battling with it but can't just sit and do nothing. I am now having niggles in my knee which isn't helping either, so now left in a state where I am considering whether it might be best to skip this year and train for next year instead. Maybe do the 70.3 this year as its a lot shorter on the run, and then aim for a qualifier round September or October.

What would the experienced guys input be on this?

Or is 127 day enough time and I must just HTFU? As a novice to say I am stressing is an understatement.

must say...I am very weary of orthics...but you must trust your podiatrist

I moved from support shoes to neutral this year....which has been a bit daunting mentally cos you never know if its going to work...and then suddenly its feb/march...but the move seems to be going alright..outside of a bit of tightness in my fascia

I've been running a neutral shoe the whole time. I asked if I should purchase an alternative shoe and was told that my problem although not severe enough to warrant a different shoe, I still needed some correction. Gonna give it a shot and see.

I can't continue with the persistent injuries, I've been to a physio, a bio and now the podiatrist. Third time lucky I hope.

If you open to suggestions go see Mike at SBR Sport in Sunninghill

He is a Kinesiologist

http://www.sbrsport.co.za/

He does a Runners Leg assessment where he will Put you on treadmill and video you and tell you where all the problems lie and what shoes you should be in.. check out his Facebook page for references on the assessment.

He will however probably tell you to ditch the Orthotics

90% of the pains we get are referred Pains from completely different places.

ie I'm having major Achilles and calf issues which is coming from the stiffness in my Back and Glutes..

He also does Myofascial Release and Needles where necessary..

Rookie error. Decided I'm feeling strong enough to run my maiden, logged onto website for more details… entries capped. Oh well, 2017 it will be.

Not at all, if ya really keen on doing it train like you have an entry

When the Substitution window opens hundreds of people realise they bit off more than they can chew or get sick/injured etc and sub out.

Think the Sub period opens mid April.  Check the website

I only decided to run Comrades after Oceans last year and got a sub.

Fantastic, thanks Ferret. I wasn't aware of the sub window. Will keep upping my mileage then. Currently only on 50 per week but increasing steadily and easily at 10% and feeling strong and injury free.

its kind of why I moved to a neutral shoe. My biokinitikist and my physio both told me to. If you think about ..we wear neutral shoes all day every day...so why run in something different. I still have a bit of anxiety as my right foot kind of slips to the left at the heel in neutral shoes (without the support) - not badly but enough that i notice it when walking (but not when running). the right foot is also the tight one...I am hoping its just gonna loosen up ....its mainly tight in the morning...but when running its fine. I have done 400km in the neutrals so I am sure if major injuries were to come from switching I would have had them by now...as I say..it still leaves me with a bit of anxiety...holding thumbs!

If you are a Member of a Club chat to the secretary, they will put you on a list for when people bail

I know RAC help many many people each year
