I haven't done the Soweto in a while.  Have they sorted out all the issues they had a while back?

Yip, very well organised now (going on my experience at the last one)... I think Old Mutual took a firmer hand in things.

What you fast guys got against us back markers getting our value for money at Comrades   :D

Strange how our view on things are always molded... I'm from the slower back of the pack running school and I know so many awesome stories of runners who use that full 12 hours. One friends wife, 5 runs, 4 finishes, all within the last 5 minutes... that's her plan and apart from getting it wrong on her first one, there she is every year with 5 minutes to go, charging in with the 12 hour bus. She's fit and lean, but doesn't run fast. Training time is probably a little tougher as a mother of two kids, she does what she does and she just keeps going...

She's just one of many I know who probably can't get under 4:30, but who sure epitomize to me what the Comrades is about. There might be a 1000 runners not finishing Comrades from H batch, but there are also a 1000 runners who are finishing from H batch, and they will have gained so much from it all and certainly deserve our respect. My 2 cents  :P

Definitely have nothing against the slower guys.  My issue is with the guys who underestimate the commitment needed to complete this, and believe that a 'qualifier' is enough to be able to finish.

I have loads of respect for the guys at the back.  To be honest I cannot think how I would be able to stay on my feet for the entire day.  I also think the vibe is completely different further back - something I have never experienced, in spite of having done a number of these silly little fun runs

nothing against that at all - as pulse says..its the okes that 200 km training and expect to finish. That said..if the QT was 4:30 i bet she would make an effort to make that

Just giving you fast guys some food for thought  :whistling:

I know a lot of runners that always finish in the last 15 minutes because they run slow and that is life. They still train 1000km+ for Comrades.

I know a couple strong runners who finished very late... speed counts for little in those last 35km's when the head takes over. It does though give you more time to walk should it be required.

Anyways, in A batch next year I'm going to be awesome

Cramps,Sore legs and Lactic Acid doesnt care if you are in the A-Batch or H-Batch. We are all sore as Sh@t the next day. Lol.

Every time I sat down my lower body siezed up.

so when is everyone planning on starting up again?

Tried it on Sunday, but the hip protested going uphill. So I grind my teeth and irritate the family for another week. No haste, but did not think a little Sunday run could make me so old so quick...
