Andrew Steer Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Who has successfully recovered from plantar fasciitis? How?How long did it take? What the other guys said, plus golf balls in the freezer... picked it up in the run in to my last Comrades, ended up getting a cortisone injection in my heel(not fun!) the week before as it wasn't coming right in time. Never had an issue with it since From what I understand it's usually caused by an increases in mileage (or just an abnormally long run can trigger it) and basically the arch of your foot pretty much gives up under the duress. Proper recover/rehab can take a fair chunk of time... I was advised 6 weeks if I recall (and Comrades was in 4)
SeaBee Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I have one set of new shoes that fit absolutely lovely. But if I exceed about 13k's in them, they kill my forefoot - and I subsequently sit with this stiffness in my foot. Have now gotten other shoes which I hope to have broken in by time CT Marathon rolls around. Will use those feet-killers for the short weekday runs (once CT is done). To alleviate this, I rolled with that blue b4play ball. Just take off the red band - it irritates me, at least. For me it helps a lot. Try your physio/bio before buying it at much greater cost at an expo... But maybe I was fortunate in that I picked it up early, put aside my "push through and get this to work" feelings squealing budget and realised that long runs in these shoes are going to cause long-term damage. Only soreness in my foot is having bruised it a bit on a rock during the downhill run yesterday. Though I still suspect it will help if you've done it properly. I now have it as part of my routine - simply sit and roll my feet whilst having breakfast.
ScottCM Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 As someone who has never gone to a doctor for sporting reasons before, who should i go to first with regards to foot pain / suspected PF, should it be a bio, Physio, Podiatrist or reflexologist?
dave303e Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 (edited) Gp, ortho, physio, bio in that order usually... but dunno where the podiatrist would fit in, possibly replace the ortho.Usually specialists need a referral from a gp. Edited September 5, 2016 by dave303e
Stretch Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 for PF - going to a podiatrist will just make you spend more money than you could have with a physio. PF is just tight facia bands - do exercises to strength and "loosen" your bands. I would recommend a facia release (usually a biokinetikist does this) and some exercises focusing on the rear fascia band (google is your friend) cos that is where the PF comes from
Andrew Steer Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 Treatment - PhysioPrevention - Bio, then Ortho if required Well, that's my understanding at least
Lexx Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 So when I saw that Vitality finally have 100% free flights on Kulula, I thought "I'm going to run the OMTOM" Seeing as I will only be paying for Accomodation. But reading further, I noticed that was easier said than done...
Jackes Posted September 5, 2016 Posted September 5, 2016 I get 50% off Mango from Multiply, no catches. Now they just need to open the April flights. Lexx 1
Jackes Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 I see on a few places they mention additional iron supplementation for these kind of activities, what else is there that you guys take, wrt the vitamin side, apart from your normal multi? Now I know we come up a bit short on sleeping hours due to small kids and schedules, but after two months we can already feel the strain, feeling tired.
ScottCM Posted September 6, 2016 Author Posted September 6, 2016 My daily supplements are: 2 x Clicks 500mg Vitamin C1 x Bio Gen Multi Vitamin2 x Artho Guard Acute Intensive Joint Protection & Support ( I have problematic knees and ankle) But I only Run low 40km a week, will be pushing it up slightly as time goes on. Maybe the guys whom do regular 60km + weeks can give better advice. Lexx 1

Jackes Posted September 6, 2016 Posted September 6, 2016 My daily supplements are: 2 x Clicks 500mg Vitamin C1 x Bio Gen Multi Vitamin2 x Artho Guard Acute Intensive Joint Protection & Support ( I have problematic knees and ankle) We also take a good multi and I added osteoeze with msm from the beginning of the year.It seems the iron is a good addition. We used to take the b complex and whatever injections weekly, but it is a pain in the butt to go to the pharmacy weekly, pun intended. during peak training I take a couple of clicks Vit C tabs a day and closer to the time Iron ...but more to keep the lurgies away. with regard to the tiredness..I try to get at least 7 hours sleep a night...so shut eye by 10pm at the latest...ideally 9 or 9:30 We don't get in more than 7, mostly we only get in 6 hours per night. Our alarms go off 03:45 to do our training then, before we start with the kids. That is the only time it can happen, there is no time in the evenings. I do think this is the first and biggest problem. Lexx 1
Lexx Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I use Betavit, and Osteo Eeze Gold for my spondylolisthesis. Bad Family Gene i guess. Then about 2 months before the race, i will get a B12 injection every 2-3 weeks.I was once so scared to get sick before Comrades,I got B12 Injections once a week and also 2x500mg of Vit C everyday. So after about 3 weeks, i started getting these red Patches on my back and my hands, looked almost like Psoriasis. Went to a Dermatologist, and the first thing he ask me was " Are you running the Comrades? And How many Vit C and B12 Shots are you taking?" So what it came down to was, i was overdosed on Vit C.He told me that i had so much Vit C in my Body that i cant pee everything out, and my body is already Filled to the brim with Vitamins. So it made way to my Skin..
SeaBee Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 Lexx, that is interesting... I also get these red patches every now and again. Ithes like a mother... and it is in times of stress and sick people around me, when I typically also up my Vit C. Haven't had a vit B shot in aaaages. So maybe I'm also at times overdoing the Vit C... who'd have thought?! And to worsen it, I go big with those 1000mg bombs of dischem. And when I feel I need to up it due to everybody in office being ill and during a hard (for me!) training block, I do those in the evening as well. BTW, also in combination with Betavit AFR. Lexx 1
Lexx Posted September 7, 2016 Posted September 7, 2016 I never thought one could overdose on Vit C. Lol.
