Sounds a lot like the Clotan Steel 70km I did last weekend, so there must be something that take's you back every year, is scenery okay?

Nothing like the Clotan Steel race.

Here, if you accuse the organisers of cheating you because you reported someone, you don't get the phone put down on you, you get bliksemed

Hehe, I'm nowhere near top three in any category to worry about not getting my prize hampers.

I was talking about the terrain though on the 70km Clotan Race... flat, dusty, corrugated, flat, lots of loose sand, and I wouldn't have really called the scenery 'scenery' cos it was just "meh"... I must have only had the opportunity to free wheel for 63 seconds.

Still, no one has given a me a reason to do this k@k race except that it's k@k and difficult... the only reason I want to enter is cos it's 80km's and I'm trying to get myself to do more rides over the usual 55km marathons.

No joking, but to me the fact that it is k@k and flat and difficult IS the reason I keep doing it.

You have to work the whole way, so you get a good workout. there are no easy miles;

There is very little interesting to distract you as not much concentration is needed and so it is mentally tough;

It comes at the end of winter and so the heat gets to you and (in my case) this is never a race I would specifically prepare for (I use these terms loosely) and so one is typically a bit undertrained.

All of which make it a much tougher ride than it promises.

BUT

Because of that, it is an excellent way to kick-start the season. If you can enjoy this race, nothing else the season has to offer can be quite as bad :eek: . Get the worst out of the way early.

It will inspire you to work a bit harder and get into better shape for the rest of the year.

I did the 80km last year. It is a hard race. Not much senery but there is a swim spot in the Vaal rivier just over half way if it gets hot.

I know I keep saying this, but sounds like the Clotan race again, also the same reason I did the Clotan race, to get back into it after the Winter/Ramadhaan hibernation.

Thanks eddy, that was a great response.

The clock out point at halfway sounds like fun.

How does the 80 differ from the previous 50 that they had a couple of years ago?  i know there is 30km difference, but is it more or less the same type of route?

Hi Guys

This will be my first crater cruise event,

From previous year experience what is the 80km like?

How technical is the route ?

This will also be my first marathon race. Only done half marathons since I started this year.
