I rode with discs.2006,same story as Johann,no brake issues when other people burnt through their pistons. No issues, replaced the back set two days in. Used Koolstop pads, the thin ones, on normal rims. But one day when I grow up I want to ride Juicy Carbons.

I used the Shimano Deore XT BL-M775 brake lever (Servo Wave)+XTR M965 caliper with the Metal M06 pads. I Burnt out the rear pads on the Gamkaberg Descent on day 2. These pads were two years old already, left over from 2006 Sani2c. I rep[laced them with new pads that evening and they worked faultlessly to the end.

The Oil was new and had no water in so it did not boil. My team mate had the oil squirting out of the bleed nipple to relieve the pressure.

Some mechanics seem to overfill the brake fluid reservoir resulting in brake lock due to the oil expanding and then having no more space to expand. Recommended oil levels in the fluid reservoir should be adhered to.

What are you lot doing to your brakes?

I never had a moments trouble from my brakes.

I would also like to know ? It is far to easy to blame the equipment for lack of ability .

After my front kept on biniding and the service people said it was a bleeding problem the next day it happend again and then I took it in again and they said the unit (juicy 5) was faulty and replaced it for me and its been awsome since with no problems atall and the unit id different to the one I had aswell.

On the ability side I will put my head on a block here and say I can  go downhill and go on the technical single track witht the best of them as Ive done it before many a times cause when I only had 1 brake I was still getting down faster than alot of people in front of me with both brakes operational.

I'll join you on that downhill for some fun' date=' Dirt Rider! Braking is over-rated. Live a little people... [/quote']

Most people brake slightly i.e. drag em which causes them to wear and overheat. Brake with fore and not too often speed is fun. Get a vigger disc so you can brake late and have better heat dispersion(I run 203's on the front of my machine)

smiley36.gif Kolonel I am sure you can . Maybe it is because I service my own brakes that I don't know about these problems . I have never had a brake fail/boil/smoke or do anything funny on me . And nothing fancy on my bikes , two got normal LX disk and other one got some stuff I bough a hubber on them (Hayes) . Like halfshock said , overfilling the reservoir is not a good idea . On Shimano brakes you will notice that the top rubber cover of your resevoir actaully got an indentation that goes into the fluid . This will leave space for expansion of fluid but ensure there is no bubbles in ur system . I am sure the Juicy's and other systems has the same setup ?

MY reservoir was overfilled upon purchase of my new MTB.  After a couple of kms on my maiden ride, my rear brakes were 80% locked up, and my front about 20%. What a great start to my MTB?ng "career".

Sure popped my cherry.

I warped my disc rotor on day2. Replaced it and had no further problems. I was using Avid Juicy 7's. mrmed2008-04-11 00:56:55

It would be interesting to know how you warped it and how big the resultant warp was. I'm still waiting for evidence of the mystical "fold-up" resulting from an overheated disk.

JB' date=' I can tell you how I warped my MTB disc (ok, NOT in the Epic).  Easy, ek het my MOER suur geval!!!![/quote']

My first post on the Hub, so quite keen to add my 2 cents worth.

Rode the first 4 epic on V's and didn't have a second's problems. Rode this year's with discs. Juicy Ultimates, new pads and again didn't have any hassles.

But much prefered the extra stopping power and control the discs give. Wouldn't go back to V's, but would go to great pains to properly maintain the discs.
