Life should be this simple

Life should be this simple.

1.Friday: Walk into Specialized Concept Store (West Rand Cycles) with a Camber carbon frame with a pivot point problem.

2. Shop owner says he has never seen such an issue before, calls Specialised, they confirm that they have never seen or heard of such a problem. No mention of such problem can even be found by trawling the web....

3. Shop confirms the problem cannot be fixed and the frame front triangle is done for.

4. I fill out warranty form and leave the shop stressed out.....

5. 30 minutes later I get confirmation a warranty frame will be at the shop on Monday and will be shipped the same day. This is not just the front carbon triangle but the entire frame.

6. Monday collect new frame.

7. Tuesday: Ride it like I stole it.

Note: You get what you pay for.......

Lets not get started on Cedar or Melrose.

I swore I would never set foot in a Spez concept store again, but for Westrand I will make an exception.

Those guys are cool. And its cool of you giving them the credit here.

Specialized are becoming like Apple where it seems 'cool' to knock the brand. Awful truth is they make a good product and replacement never seems an issue, well for me anyway.

I frankly love the brand.

Okay...... 5,4,3,2,1 and let the slating commence!

You are very right, they do get knocked in the same way that Apple do, and you are even more right that their products are great.... that is why it is great to hear about some concept stores still taking client service seriously, too many of them get by on the Spez brand recognition and great products that sell themselves.

Eben and his gang are a real pleasure to deal with. Nothing is ever too much trouble. I have never been a fan of LBS's but I have to make an exception for West Rand Cycles. This is an old school shop where you can walk in at anytime and just chat about whatever and shoot the breeze....... and leave without spending a cent (which is hard) and they never pressure you to buy anything.

This all gets back to the concept that a good LBS, or cycle shop, needs to be managed by people that are passionate about cycling....rather than passionate about money.
