Magic ratio

I saw a very intersting comment on an article about the luxury cars in South Africa. What the guy was getting at is, what is the ratio between house value, car value and in our case, bike value.

So I had a look at the value of my assets in relation to one another.

Houses to Cars: 16:1

Houses to Bikes: 70:1

Houses to CC debt at any point in the month: 175:1

The interesting point is what people place value on, the guy was saying he lives in a complex where the houses are around R900k and there is a guy driving an X5 for around R800k and he could not understand it.

So I thought it would be interesting to see what ratios normal bike pedaling South Africans have.

I thought the rule of thumb, was that the combined cost of your bikes should be more than your car?

The combined cost of ALL your houses should be less than half of your toy car...

The combined cost of ALL your bikes should NEVER  be less than your wifes car...

It was until that car was written off and the common sense police rocked up.

For all of those that "know" V12, we know the wife wears the pants in that house, before he buys anything he has to run it past her aesthetics standards,,,,now THAT is just soooo wrong in soooo many ways

I have STD8 lower grade maths, however I know the ratio is not the "correct financial" balanced ratio

It is more towards the fun/quality/reward balance side of the spectrum, I may have another point of view in a few years time, then again I could die in a few years time in/on my toy ;)

I can hear the V12 engine starting, with a comment, on that matter . :whistling:

Interesting topic.  A lot of people are incredibly skewed, especially more so if you compare for example Shitville, oops, Joburg versus Cape Town.    Joburg everyone seems to drive a newer pricier car, but the houses are a lot cheaper than Cape Town, so the ratios are not universally applicable.

My crappy thumbsuck, not sure if any good is:

Houses to Cars: 8:1

Houses to Bikes: 40:1

Houses to CC debt at any point in the month: 80:1  (although settled every 54 days :P )

Mmmmmmm your fantastic cape is quickly catching up to GANGSTERS PARADISE stats don't lie ;)

Maybe we buy more expensive cars because we know in five years we CAN still be driving around in them and they won't be covered in rust and needing to be replaced ;)

If my car had a street life of 5 years I would also be driving a citi golf ;)
