lol...I have to laugh

So you are shooting them down because they want to help you solve the creak(they are 100% correct, it could be anything from pedals, bolts, chainrings, post, saddle rails). Obviously this will come at a cost of a service.

I say they did the right thing...

OP has less than 1000 posts   :whistling:   :offtopic:

I had the displeasure of trying to get a Alu seat post out of a carbon frame once, because the grease used fused the two together.

It wasn't the grease....

Ever tried removing one that was installed dry and left like that for a year or so?

Some of the dudes I spoke to at the time, said that some greases can attack the epoxie in the carbon, causing it to expand and then jam the post. They did however make mention that the grease will not corrode the carbon as such though.

This seems to be the problem with the whole carbon / grease thing. Everyone has a different opinion, and few are backed up by facts.

I have heard some say that it softens the epoxy. Your source said it causes it to expand. There are others who can't say what it does, but just say it's not good.

I don't know what the hell to believe any more, but until such time as it's conclusive (ie never), I will use grease that is advertised as safe for carbon ~ and install my seatpost dry, then hopefully remember to remove and clean it every couple of months.

No. Shooting them down because they are a big store and are the one-stop cycling shop yet they do not sell grease.

Won't sell the grease but will put some on your bike if they service it. I recently changed the pedals and since then have had the squeaking noise issue. As for the saddle squeaking, I'm no bike mechanic but I don't think a service is required to sort it out - just some grease. Tried telling the sales hero.

They sell most other products and a variety at that; why not some grease?

Anyway got some elsewhere.

The thread has however opened some debate as it would appear that grease type, intended use and availability are topical.

Oh and most importantly, another post closer to the obligatory 1000 post prerequisite before posts are considered worthy...ahem, clearing throat.

Any speficic type/grade grease one should use?

I personally prefer marine grease. I had an old pair of crankbrothers eggbeaters that were squeaking embarrassingly loud, bought marine grease, its been a year and they've been working better than I can remember they ever did.

edit: should add that I bought marine grease because my research showed that it doesn't adversely affect rubber or any other common bicycle part where it could be used
