Race distances - fact or fiction?

That's why I ride without the Garmin on the bar. No idea how far I have to go until I finish.

Ride by feel, if I can chat, I'm doing all right, if my lungs are clapping hands, I'm not doing well.

And if you can smell the boerewors stand, you're near home.

This thread would have been about 20 pages long by now if someone had mentioned that the quoted and "actual" altitude gain was also out.  :whistling:

When did this happen to you, which race was it?

It is more of a case of which race they actually got it right.  This is simple thing to get right and there is no excuse not to be with 500meters either way.  The race detail never indicates plus minus 100kms.  The advertised distance is what it should be.  I do not pay plus minus the entry fee, maybe more, maybe less depended on my budget that month.  I pay the exact amount asked, and I must get what I pay for, rather simple.

Yes, and this includes ascent and water points.  In today's technology age we living it, there is just no excuse.

If the organizer cannot do this (and there are some that get it right), they should go and organize kiddy parties or something, or just clearly communicate your inability to get this right.  Then cyclists will know to avoid your event, or take the risk...
