Was reading an interview with Sagan and he isn't staying in the Village, he is staying with all the Specialized trade team riders out side of the village, apparently less distraction and they are all together, preparing together with Sauser as Pappa bear.

Yip.. indeed Nino will be very hard for anyone to beat never mind for Sagan to beat..I still think Sagan is capable of a top 10 it would be a great result.. and he'll need a bit of luck, the start will be the key.. let's hope for no crashes at the start.

Believe this was for the women only and was announced 1 July at the games, so in all likelihood there wasn't any ladies present to race. Doubt it would be Ashleigh or An-Li wanting to race the XCO or even have MTBs as they were there for the road race.

 

It's not unusual for berths to open up due to nations pulling out or whichever reason. That's how Dan Craven ended up riding the time trial event. Great Britain didn't even qualify to send a single rider for the MTB event, but managed to get a rider in under similar circumstances at the last minute.

We definitely had ladies in the form of Mariske Strauss & Cherie Redeker (Vale), I think both were fresh from recent European racing stints. Mariske reclaimed the SA title last month, so we definitely had the ladies available unless of course they were told to pay their own way. This was from a CSA newsletter heading earlier this year "Strauss ready for first XCO Cup with Rio Olympics in mind"

 

This is a mystery. 

 

btw Ashleigh is a very capable mountain biker.
