I saw somewhere that the Ride 4 Sight is going to be on the 14 Feb. It clashes with SA Champs. And somehow I think I might go to the beach to support instead of do the race. I always liked it. It was longer so a bit harder. But the first 50km go past in an hour :P Last time I did it I got taken out by some bozo at 10km so had to walk back to the start/finish and a dude stopped to give me a lift. Was a bit of a dilemma - do you get in....do you not.....

I like Emperor's but I think it's an ASG event and I just can't afford those. Same as Berg and Dale.

So maybe Carnival City and Fast One. I only entered the Fast One once and I dnf-ed. I started in the ladies bunch, got dropped and was left to ride with some older ladies. Shew....they make you work. Hardest 50km ever. So next time open bunch. Need some men to block the constant head wind

Yip the Fast one will definately be the place to test the team echelon skills.

Unfortunetly i will have to give it a miss next year as its on the same day as my comrades marathon qualifier.

Looking far into the future, towards the Amashova in October next year, one of the things on my bucket list has been the 3-day ride down from JHB to PMB and then do the Amashova.

How many I-Teamers would be interested in joining me for the adventure?

I'm very keen on the idea

So you will fly up to ride down. Dedication!

Maybe we should rope in the experience of geraldm24

Here I am... smiling

If there are a few from KZN, then hire a car/combi to drive up, use as a backup vehicle and the Jhb guys can drive it back. It all depends on numbers - we had 3 drivers and 24 cyclists, so it's a handful to manage (especially finding accommodation for so many).

Word of advise - commitment... people need to pay the deposit (which is non-refundable unless they find a substitute). Make that deposit at least R1K to R1.5K so you cover accommodation which needs to be booked and paid in advance.

I'll happily share as much about it as possible, as we're probably going to do it again next year.

For the tour thing:

There are a few members from my club that ride to CPT every year, but it's not organised by us. If you need more info, let me know - I'll get their contact details in the mean time.

Some seriously long days in the saddle, with up to 250Km per day for 3 days in a row.

For the I-team thing:

As mentioned before, I have a similar thing happening with my club. I have a few less experienced guys that I'm trying to get up to speed. Within the next 3-4 weeks, I'll have an idea as to which races we're planning to race together, and which ones we'll do on our own. There won't be many rides done in the A-bunch as they're not quite there as a team to try make the racing hard even though their seeding might place them in A. So instead, they'll be racing in B, C or D and work there way up from there to A and eventually to Vets (in 2-3 years time).

As most of them have done many club rides together and more than one race as a group, they have a fairly good idea of what I-team wants to achieve, and collectively are slightly more organised at doing it. This is where I can see some synergy between my group, and the I-team... we'll have some guys working hard to keep the pace up, but also some guys sitting in and trying to learn. There's no reason why the I-team can't do the same and get pulled along until it becomes second nature.

At the end of the day, helping to develop riders (team mates as well as other in the bunch) makes for a safer bunch, and hopefully safer races. And let's not forget the fun part of it.
