"A major Canadian study has found no link between cycle helmet legislation and head injuries, and has recommended governments focus on providing bike infrastructure to protect cyclists instead."

"The study found helmet legislation did not reduce head injury rates, while female riders were injured less, and areas with a greater proportion of cycling trips saw lower injury rates"

Yaaaaawwwwwnnnn...... not this crap again.

No matter how many studies are produced, and how convincing they may be, my pip will remain covered every time I turn a pedal.

The last time I smashed into the deck, and broke my helmet into three pieces, I was pretty glad it was there.

For me, it's no helmet, no ride. The Darwin award candidates can do what they want.

Falco, I feel you are missing the point of the quote of the article. It make makes no suggestion that you or I should not wear a helmet. Rather the point is: given the choice between the government :

  • Putting cops on the road to make sure all cyclists are wearing a helmet.

or

  • Put in more cycle lanes.

What would you choose. That is the jist of the article.

"Their focus needs to be on reducing the risk of collisions occurring in the first place, by reducing traffic volumes and speeds, creating safe and cycle-friendly roads and junctions, tackling bad driving and reducing the risks from lorries.  That's what will help achieve more, as well as safer, cycling, in order to maximise the benefits cyclists gain from 'safety in numbers'."

Amen!

I'm too tired to bite. I'd rather go ride without a helmet than get into this with you on a Friday afternoon.
