Have you been on a skills course?

Or at least been reading up on correct technique?

It's one thing to identify a potential issue, and throw money/equipment at it, and it's a different thing, making sure you have the correct technique, and then adapting equipment from there.

For XC type riding, Maxxis have some pretty sweet new rubber for 2016.

The Crossmark II:

The Race TT (formerly known as Larsen TT):

Or, for something a bit more aggressive, the new Tomahawk:

[Edit: The Tomahawk is an #Enduro® tyre, but would be a good choice for a front tyre, when more grip is required.]

Just going to be a while before they are available.

I actually have used this tire for a long time, front and rear...No problems at all...sidewall is solid, done a few MTN, XC races, etc and no problems regarding handling.

Best combo was the Rocket Ron/Racing Ralph, but the tire cut very easily but rolled and handled like a dream.

Just please stay away from Crossmark, the worst tire ever regarding cornering but works going into a straight line

I have used the following in front exstensively.Conti x-king 2,2 .Maxxis ardent and crossmark ,Swalbe nobby nick .I have not used Conti x-king 2,4 or Conti mountain -king 2,4 ,but it will be hard to find anything better .You don,t want a heavy tyre in front ,makes turning difficult.Ardent has that problem .If you have Sauser,s talent put a cross mark in front ,otherwise stay away .Nobby nick is great for muddier conditions .That new crossmark 11 looks promising

Agree....Conti Mountain King 2.4 is a nice tyre to have at the front if it is running normal....but apparently the sidewall is a bit suspect with tyre threads breaking. Gives one a big fright because it seems as if the rim is buckled.....and you still have 30km to go.

Thread about the reliability of Contis somewhere in Hub digital space.

I have been riding with Spez Fast Trak's. Really love this tyre, but useless in the wet. I have the S-Works in front(No issues after 2000+ km) and just replaced the Grid at the back after 4500km.

1.5bar front and 1.8 back and you have more than enough grip!!!

Chris before buying anyone of many tires that could offer better grip rather run the front with a little less pressure by dropping it say 0.1 of a bar  and test it down your usual favorite trail

The last maxis tire I used I ran it down to 1.7 to give any credible feel .Also your shock air pressure will influence the front end feel as well so rather experiment with that before dumping the tire .

As good as this advice is, nothing is going to make the tyre that he has at the moment grip like he wants it to. 2.1 should not be anywhere near an MTB, unless you're a CX racer with an identity crisis.

For some wicked trail riding, Butcher 2.3 up front, and Purgatory 2.2 rear. Grip like a demon in most SA conditions.... & I have had no flats or bites in years running tubeless with them on both my bikes. Got them for R380 -R420 per tyre.

Onza ibex 2.4, very good grip, not bad rolling either. Hans dampf brillaint grip but a bit of a drag. Spez purgatory 2.3 good grip and roll. Wtb vigilante brilliant grip but a bit of drag not as much as Hans dampf though.

These are all just my own experiences ,am currently quite impressed with the onza.
