Got a quote of R3700 for the upgrade including fitment, and for the factory unit, R4200.

Is the R500 extra worth it to get the factory one, is the only difference the slow compression setting in open mode?

I would pay for the Factory upgrade. More adjustability. I have the previous CTD 34 model in Factory and the extra adjustments in Trail mode definitely helped make the CTD a bit more tolerable. Luckily my Descent (Open) mode is pretty much spot on for me.

The newer FIT 4 damper has the adjustments in open mode where they r more useful

Guess it means you can almost leave it in open mode always and just use the compression setting to fine tune it

Which GP shop did you get the quote from??

On paper the factory upgrade kit seems better. I can't comment if this is borne out on the trail though. But the FiT 4 is much much better than ctd.

Forget the naming of the settings. The damping circuit is complete different and that is all that matters

Referred by David Marshall to Cycle United on 0769217099. that is a round about price, not on the dot as I have not received the official quote.

I am however also waiting for a quote from Summit Cycles in Midrand.

Been following this thread as I have a 2013 Anthem with an Evo fork. OD2 makes life a bit more difficult when trying to upgrade fork.

Obviously there is a difference between the Evo, Performance and Factory dampers. It's suggested that for the extra R500, go for the Factory damper (Makes sense).

Is there a difference in the rest of the fork between the Evo, Performance and the Factory? Other than Kashima coating on the Stanchions.... anything else?

i had it done on my 140 and its like day and night...shock actually works now and no more stiction. small bump is also good now.

cost me 3500

On what Fox fork was this done. A Fox 32?

Hey Kraggie,

What fork are looking at upgrading.

I have a 2105 Fox 32 Evo so not sure whether it is worth spending money on the apparently limp like a wet noodle fork.

2014 Fox 32 EVO, for me it's not the stiffness of the fork that's the problem, more that is does not do much in terms of small bump compliance. And it hits through its travel much too easy, and does not have enough rebound, even when set to max (fastest) rebound. The only place I have seen that it's not stiff is braking on tarmac where it flexes a bit fore and aft. But offroad never had an issue where I could see I need a stiffer fork.

I would think once it absorbs more bumps better, then it will not need to be SO stiff in any case.

I had a warranty replacement on the rear shock, went from a EVO to a factory Kashima CTD one (was my lucky day I guess!), and that shock now eats up bumps very well. Rides very smoothly over the worst stuff. The front just does not match it now, and could never. I have seen I need to dial in alot less rebound though, only like 5 clicks from full slow.

OD2 isn't a problem, you just have to replace the headset. Giant even do an adapter kit that drops in to your existing cups and comes with a shim for the stem.

The Factory forks get the LSC adjustment and Kashima coat over the Performance series. EVO doesn't exist anymore, as of the 2016 range.

Ahh ok. New headset would work.

I saw that there is only Performance and Factory from 2016.

Another way to ask my questions:

What is the difference between the 2016 Performance and 2016 damper? Is the LSC part of the damper, or somewhere else?

In the outgoing range (2013-2015): other than Kashima and damper, what was the difference between the evo, performance and the Factory? Were they the same steerer, crown, lowers etc.?

Because R4.5k doesn't seem like a bad price to upgrade to an "almost Factory" fork. Certainly lot more attractive than the price of a new fork, new headset and new stem.

Evolution - pants damper, standard coating

Performance - FIT cartridge damper, standard coating

Factory - FIT cartridge damper with Trail Adjust, Kashima coating.

As far as I know everything else is the same.

And yes, the low speed compression adjustment is part of the damper.

LSC worth it for R500 ?
