Job offer is accepted! Now our immigration agents need to rise to the challenge of getting my Temp work Visa in 6 weeks max.

Has anyone had experience in moving animals to NZ? We have paid Global Paws our deposit  (has to happen before they will divulge much) but the process looks like a pig.

We have to provide NZ addresses and our Visa's even though we have only just started the process.

Great news! Congrats!

And seems like you might get there sooner than me

We moved our dog over (with Animal Travel Services in Cape Town). The process involved a few visits to our vet based on a timetable that ATS provided, where we had to get the appropriate jabs and stamps.

We used the address of some relatives in Auckland, and then when we actually had our own address after arrival, we updated them. Our dog left about a month after us, to allow us to do the house-hunting and other stuff without worrying about pet babysitting. And because we were a bit late with the Rabies shot, which had to be done 6 months before departure.

Seriously, rehome your animals. Having pets here limits where you can get a house and you will very quickly learn that spending your time cleaning up after Fluffie isn't all that much fun. Also, you'll want to explore the country...very difficult to do when you need to put Fluffy up in a kennel because you don't have any mates or family who will look after the pets for you. You will need dog licenses, too, at around $150 per year, and there's vet bills to consider.

How do I know? I brought our two dogs over. Cost about $10 000 all in. One has since died (made my cry like a little girl - still miss her a lot) the other is now middle aged. While I love the dogs, they would have been just as happy had they gone to live with Ouma and Oupa in Vanderbijlpark.

I think our dog has had a bigger lifestyle improvement than us! Daily walks on the beach, etc.

Rehoming would be a tough sell to the wife...

What is the job security like in NZ?

And also, how is the work/life ratio?  Are they go-go-go all the time with work or more relaxed THAN SA?

Or at least from what I have seen and read.

For instance, my jib here is for 40hrs/wk. I'm staying within the same company, and my job that side is for 37.5hrs/wk.

It also frequently ranks right up there for best work-life balance.

Do they need any civils?  Hehehe...

We've just been toying with the idea of looking at NZ
