Need some new tyres for the ride (please note ride, not race!). Leaning to Maxxis Ikon EXO, front and rear. Any advice? I dont think its very technical so need as little rolling resistance and as few punctures as possible.

Anybody out there?

its pretty much paving, nothing too  rough and tough, go with what you know and trust, lots of district road not as much single track as you think,

I've done it four times and not punctured ever so don't worry too much about the terrain unless heavy rain is forecast. My preferred tire choice was Schwalbe Racing Ralph snakeskin 2.25 front and back. I did it once on the Specialized 2.1 fastracks and the bike felt too skittish most of the time.

My riding partner used the Maxxis Ikons last two years with no issue.

Flat district roads on day 1, 2 & most of 3. A bit of singletrack on the last bit of day 3.

Day 4 was mind blowing with the escarpment drop. A real mountain bike day.

Day 5 & 6 had a LOT of climbing and descending on district roads

Days 7, 8 & 9 is the Sani2C route

I rode last year on Conti Mountain King (f) and X King ® and was very happy with that, even though its closer to the grippy than fast-rolling side of things.

It rained a bit on day 1 & 2 which turned the roads into sticky peanut butter, but the rest was dry.

I managed to break my collarbone on the weekend so I'm out for this year  :cursing:

Anyone still thinking about entering this year let me know, add below,,,

I know how you feel, I flew over my handlebars at +50k/h on the tar at the ride for sight. A few broken ribs, torn shoulder muscles and hip muscles so I'm in a lot of pain and no training for a while so will see.

Sorry to hear that, quick way to ruin your summer!

Yep it was me...

We were in the parking area when the "back up" that was called arrived.

She asked "I'm looking for two cyclists" and we replied "take your pick"

Used my friends phone to find out where you were.

Look like you took a nasty tumble there. Heal up quick, hope you are back on the bike soon.
