Remote lockout for a fork- worth doing?

I am looking at getting a remote lockout for my Rockshox SID fork.

I have heard conflicting opinions here, where some say it is a lot of admin in the long run.

Others say it is a worthwhile exercise to do.

 

Any feedback would be appreciated

The hydraulic one is pretty reliable. Not cheap though.

The Rock Shox remote lockouts and circuit is very nice because its not a complete lock out but rather just a lot of initial compression damping. Break past that and the fork moves to prevent damage to the internals and your fillings.

Implied in my earlier post but let me state explicitly - avoid the cable operated one like a puff adder.

After 2 years of riding my duallie, I can see places where it would be beneficial in having a remote for the rear, when you suddenly want to switch it to descent, and not maybe lose fingers in the spokes ... but I can do the switch without looking down these days.

 

On the fork, I would never need one, so quick to flick it via the dial.

 

Just my opinion ... for me less clutter the better.

IMHO...Remote up front not worth the effort remote on rear now you talking.

if its a cable take it off and put it in the bin...it wont work anyway.

I use mine plenty and it works for me.  I don't think I would get a bike which does not have this facility.  Rear shock lock-out is also very lekker.

But how much does it cost to change the switch?

 

Lets say you have a cable system lock out but want a switch?

not all RS forks are compatible with the hydraulic lock out without a change in damper.

To be honest I have never utilized my lockout, don't know if it even works. IMHO it is a useless piece of marketing drivel sold to you by the companies because 20 years ago the suspension was so rubbish that you needed lockout, and the market never changed its mind so there you have it - every new fork or shock HAS TO HAVE a lockout other wise the Hubbers wouldn't have anything to debate...

I use the lockout on my fork a lot when standing up, it is insane how much energy you lose bobbing up and down on a long climb.

Its insane how much traction you lose with it on - and you use more energy trying to keep your bike on the right line...
