Apart from Racetec, Championchip, Ss timing, Vortex timing, the company doing the Kremetart there is now also Jumpertrax that time races. Yet another chip cost to do some race. Can we not standardise on 2 companies.

I just don't do anything not timed by racetec , if everyone does the same all events will be forced to come onboard. I say racetec purely because they seem to be the best out there and they time the larger more popular races. Vote with your money, if they have a random company timing , don't do the race.

I have the same thinking, but it seems they have caught onto this and adjusted their pricing accordingly. This price then just gets pushed onto us as consumers.

Healthy competition is needed to keep pricing and service delivery honest.

I would like to get one seeding body if I could have a wish. PPA moved my MTB seeding from MB to MC just because I did no races with them. but I did a few races timed by Trailtag and SA Seeding since Philidelphia MTB. With most MTB races now done by plenty of other people, your seeding is now all over the place. OK, thats my wish for today

In KZN most events are organised by ROAG. They liaise with whichever timing system the client prefers and then compile a seeding list from all their events irrespective of the timing company used. It works very well. ROAG has changed streamlined event organisation hugely in the province a.nd seeding is not a problem. Except for guys outside of the province who do not do a lot of ROAG organised racing

Exactly my thought too.

Lack of competition means they can dictate a price which will just get pushed on to us.

Few years back Racetec (called Winning Time then) changed their system so that it would also pick up and record riders with Championchip.

Championchip threatened legal action on Racetec  who were then forced to discontinue this.

That been said, i prefer receiving data from Championchip's site as there is more info available to drill down into. I also don't like Racetecs forcing users to get timed with threats of no chip no ride even where the rider is not interested in been timed  . i.e. CTCT and 94.7.

yip - and there is an agreement in place between the three main timing companies that they will all read each others chips and share results freely

Is that Racetec or the race organizers or a combination I wonder?

Is that a think coming from Racetec or the event organisers themselves?

Most likely combination, Racetec offer the Orgs a reduction, Orgs win because they are saving, Racetec win as they make it up from increased sales
