Deep Sleep

I have one of these Garmin watches and I discovered last week it has a mode that you tell it when you go to sleep and then wake up.

The reports say I have 5h35 light sleep and 2 hours deep sleep which is pretty constant over the week I tried it out.

Is deep sleep really necessary or am I just a wriggly sleeper.

Just interested, not really fussed as I don't wake up tired. (once I do make it through my first cuppa coffee)

Have you tried finding out what the average person's amount of deep sleep is per night?

2 hours might be the avg.

More with alcohol...

also think it may be the only way I get deep sleep....occasionally comatose....

Interested to understand how the Garmin watch measures the deep sleep? Does it measure movement or the distance to la-la land?

:whistling:

Probably a combination of movement and heart rate...

I definitely had deep sleep this morning again after sleeping through 4 of my alarms (2nd time in a week)....funny because I toss and turn most night until I think 3-4am then I am out. I dream more in the times of tossing and turning than during the deep sleep (i thinks - maybe I just remember the one more than the other).

I see my Suunto also have that heart rate measurements thing to do during the night, I think I will try that tonight.

Just had a Google - assumed deep sleep = REM sleep - nope. And now I'm also gutted as it says you can't make up sleep over the weekends - there goes my excuse for lie ins.

But.. No expert but surely deep sleep is the quality stuff where your body does the recovery stuff. So imagine quality over quantity applies to sleep too.
