Try and keep up.

Yeah, 1.89m @ 76kg. Low-fat/Fat free is so 2005.

Clearly you know better, seeing whatever you are doing appears to be working wonderfully.

No need to be condescending, J. Sugar is sugar is sugar. Just because you're consuming less of it, it doesn't make it a "better source"

And yes, low fat & fat free IS so 2005. Your advice above, to see a dietitian, has lots of merit. IF they don't hold to outdated and increasingly scientifically shoddy treatment / dietary advice.

That list you've shown above has an enormous level of grain-based carbohydrate and sugar. We're trying to lose weight, not get on the train to diabetes town.

Hey TheJ, this thread is about having a bit of a go at weight loss in a pretty casual competition rather than evangelism.

Trying to say what worked for me, but apparently most of the okes see the whole thing as a joke. Maar nou ja, clearly I'm just lucky and didn't have to work my ass off to get where I am. Good luck to all.

Out of 30g of Milo, 9.3 grams is pure sugar, that's nearly a third. And then some people add a bit of sugar on top of that.

"One teaspoon of granulated sugar equals 4 grams of sugar. To put it another way, 16 grams of sugar in a product is equal to about 4 teaspoons of granulated sugar.Jan 28, 2009"

Honey is sweeter than sugar, so you end up using less. I put no more than 1 teaspoon of honey in my tea.

"Although, honey does have more calories, many people use less of it because it's sweeter. Because they use less, they often end up consuming less calories too."

So no, Myles, 1 teaspoon of honey is much better than the mountain of sugar in Milo.

Thanks for all the advice and input.....the bit that is highlighted is maybe a good indication that this thread is not for you....even though you are being the ever helpful friend.....or braggart......maybe even a little self absorbed.......just saying that is how it comes across.....good luck with the running race....don't get any of us fatties to second you....we will eat all your food on the day.......

Ok, there was some humour in that, I'll give you that.

The advice might be outdated compared to what Noakes and others are preaching, but still, the old school methods works for me. A person doesn't have to climb onto every newest diet craze to trim down.

I don't eat 11 slices of bread a day, bread goes straight to "belly flab" for me. Bit of pasta (yeah, as bad as bread) and potatoes etc.

Cheers.

I try. My breathing is a bit stunted at the moment thanks to the ribs, though.

HTFU - those ribs should be just about 100% by now... can you cough without pain?

Nobody is seeing it as a joke. We want to lose as much as we can. That's part of the reason we're all here. I speak for myself though when I say that I don't want to be eating according to an outdated and increasingly vilified dietary plan.

If you're working at high intensities all the time (and have the time to do that) then by all means follow that string.

However. The carbs & sugar you've shown in your "diet" are far too high for us here, who are mere mortals and don't run 450km per month to get it all off again.

Thanks, btw.

I guess I can afford it as I train allot. But I do avoid foods (where possible) with high sugar content (most cereals are poison), and almost never add white/brown sugar to anything. Breakfast for me is usually a cup of bran and a cup of milk, no extra sugar.
