My worst is when they say, he did not shine in SA so how is he now a tour winning athlete.

Ja, with that logic Nolan Hofman should be cleaning up at Le tour.

I bet you he thinks he can.

Ps: There is also a very noteable difference between CF and NH

No Athlete will provide all the data unless all of their peers are compelled to do the same. Its a bit like everyone whinging about Mercedes dominating F1 and the FIA asking Merc to provide all the data on their engines performance parameters.

Thats basically giving everyone else an instruction manual on how beat them. Same with Froome. Why would he give his rivals an advantage on how they can beat him?

Sure theres not enough data to prove anything this way or that but thats up to the scientists to go and do. Instead they prefer to posture in articles than go and do the real work.

Until Tucker comes  out with something ground breaking I'll always view him as Noakes Lab janitor.

Noakes his always had the balls to take his foot of his mouth to make space for the other but 90% of the time he's been right.

SO come on Dr Tucker, prove to us whether riders are doping or not. Innuendo helps no one

I wonder if Ross Tucker, and others, have published their positions in peer-reviewed articles, rather than only the twitter-verse? Either way, twitter, and the like eg blogs, Facebook etc, require a careful balancing act by the authors, as non-peers, like most of us on BikeHub for instance, swallow the scraps we are given with little circumspection.

As a former academic, not in Sport Science (maybe in the next life?), I have yet to see the benefit of social media for the dissemination of science to the public. It fulfils one role only, and that is self-promotion......

That is exactly what it looked like for me, they were all scrambling to be first to get some kind of blog post up. Some of them even labelled it as a quick thought.

Its got so little to do with Froome and so much to do with them trying to get into the spotlight for a while.

Can someone explain how its possible to ride @ 400w Hr 158 then do a massive 1000w attack and Hr only move to 162?

Are the numbers you're referring to from the 'leaked' footage during this year's TdF?

I have a friend like this, he can smash a climb leaving us all for dead and his HR hardly even reacts. It also depends on how close you were to max HR before you launch it...

understood, saying that EXP

My max is 192 and im climbing at 188(that is impossible unless its a short sprint) then do a 1000watts attack and jump to 192....then settle down at 188 again and complete the climb

That means I was riding @ 98+-% for a 60min climb? not talking about sprint up a hill and talking about a 60min climb

Yeah look Im just pointing out that HR is a very slim indicator for some things.

If I look back at marathons I have run then Im at 90%+ after 5 min, I also stay at around 95% max for the duration of the run which can be for a long time.

I dont put too much value in HR, everyone is very different when it comes to that.

I'm not a fan but in his defense getting started with racing in SA would definitely have stunted his development as a racer, guys with his 'talent' in Europe would have had much better exposure to bigger mountains, longer races and tougher competitors from an early age.

definitely a later bloomer.

Jip up ventoux 2013

and vualta 2014

I was going to type a long hypothesis, but I'm not qualified to be a critic, armchair or otherwise. So let me fire some randoms out there?!

1. Cardiac lag?

2. Conconi asymptote?

3. Measurement error?

4. Corrupted data?

5. Human error?

6. Bad steak??

HRT lag is very very normal for top athletes during a 3 week effort like that. It's very simple really. As fatigue builds up the Hrt response rate will slow down considerably..so on day 1 an 15 sec sprint will have maybe a 10 beat jump..by the time you hit week 2 that same power effort will only have an 2 or 3 beat effect.

This and the fitter you are the longer your hrt take to respond to big short efforts.

This is a guy that is at the top end of what is humanly possible so he's hrt will be extremely slow to react to efforts like that....

Then there is a bunch of other reason also that should be considered when looking at Hrt.

This it what makes it so sad that people with very little understanding of how these things work then go and comment on a power file like that and then literally hundreds of people go...that's not right so he has to be doping.

Worst is if people actual compare themselves to a machine like that....

No respect left for Tucker after those comments that's for sure!!

Really you want to bring in the SA racing scene??

Dude you can push 800watts at threshold it will not help you in SA...especially not during the time he was racing here. You basically had 10 riders plus from 2 big teams pulling for their sprinters....every single race was done like that.

No way a big engine is going to help you in races like that. Its like saying you don't understand why Lance never won the final stage of the tour...he was the strongest rider there so why did he not just ride away from them?

Horses for courses mr Tucker...Horses for courses......

It just @#$%%$# funny that he comes out and says something like that!

What pisses me off is that we end up debating little details like this and NOT stuff like how the 5 riders from Astana get CAUGHT and nothing gets done!

If I was a pro cyclist right now, I would be snorting EPO cause if somebody wanted to test me I would just point at Froome and say "rather focus on him, it will sell more newspapers!" And I would be left alone!

The worst is people take his word for gossip and you have to listen to that at braais and from your father in law
