Good people. I'll be in Constantia over December visiting family and looking for some MTB trails to ride in Tokai. This will be the first time I have invited my MTB on holiday. I know that some trails have been closed due to the fire damage etc so I'm not sure what is / isn't open to the public?

Any suggestions for XC and XCM would be lekker.

There's nothing much in that area at the moment TBH.

There's Constantia Uitsig. Worth a visit. Think of a better execution of the PWC thing in Bryanston.

There's also Blackhill of you are into jumping.

There are some greenbelt trails but they are illegal at the moment.

There's some stuff on TM but it's mostly jeeptrack

But there's LOADS of amazing riding on the Durbanville Hills trail network. Over 100km. I think you can buy a holiday membership. Well worth it in my opinion. And I'm a MASSIVE trail snob.

There's also Eden, G Spot, Coetzenberg

Then of course Jonkershoek

Welvanspas

Helderberg Trails

I'm leaving out a bunch of places. Short story you'll need a car but the trails here are AMAZING!

Tokai is closed, but Silvermine should be opening up soon (as in very soon) and that includes places like Ou Wapad, the Noordhoek Peak loop and so on, which you can string together for a lekker XC loop.

Then there's the front side of the mountain, at Rhodes Mem & Table Mountain (Deer Park etc) which is mainly jeep track.

UCT then have a new XCO loop, which I haven't seen yet but looks to be pretty good.

That's pretty much it in the Southern Burbs until Tokai reopens next December...

I heard that Parks et al had decided not to open up any of those trails this year. Has something changed?

I think anything ANYONE FROM ANY GOVERNMENT department says can't be taken seriously.

yeah, you were given crap info... :)

Seriously though. The word from Parks is that they'll be opening shortly. Not Tokai, just Silvermine. Haven't got an actual date yet, but it'll be before the originally planned 31st December (as of the last meeting, which was Thursday)

Apparently silvermine West is now open to all users. Can anyone confirm?

Yep to ride in Table mountain reserve you have to have a Activity card(Silvermine ,Tokai and the Rhodes/ Devels peak section...Like the wild card issued for visiting sanparks reserves the activity card id issued for Mountainbiking, horse riding dog walking and fishing it lasts a year from date of issue... Or you can buy a day permit

Awesome thank you!

Can anyone give me some more info on the silvermine ride?? Looked online and couldn't find MTB specific info besides SANPARKS stating that the east side is open. I don't want o land up irritating hikers riding on trails I shouldn't be on
