Having issues seating Maxxis Crossmark tyres

Hi all hubbers

I have Mavic XM319 650B rims which I recently got back from being laced and I have been trying seat the Maxxis Crossmark tyre that I have bought, I am wanting to use the tyres as tubeless so I have wrapped one layer of the Ryder rim tape on both rims but I just can't get them to seat. Is there any tricks to get the tyres to seat. I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Take the valve core out and use a compressor - or go to the garage and use their air supply - you will need a valve core remover and and adapter for the valve.

Once it has seated then you can use an ordinary pump on it - just needs a LOT of air..

You can make up (I don't reccomend it if using a 2l cooldrink bottle (but there is a thread with instructions and warnings) ) a local air bottle for this - alternately you can make up somthing proper like this one:

edit - it is available here -

Good luck - youtube is your friend if you get stuck.

Make sure the tyre bead is as close to the rim wall as possible (all the way around )

Remove the inner core of valve to allow free flow of air ( unrestricted by valve )

Use a compressor the 1st time you are inflating

Inflate to about 4 bar ( the tyre will pop until it is seated properly )

You can then deflate and fill with sealant if you have not done already

Some tyre are more difficult than others but have found Maxis seat well.

Good luck !!

Mix up a lekker batch of Sunlight liquid and water, lekker soapy. Dip your fingers into the mixture and run your fingers around the wheel between the tyre bead and the rim. Don't by shy. Added bonus when you are done and the tyre is seated you can use the bit of soapy mixture that's on the sidewalls to nicely wipe the tyre and rims down.

^This. I have never had a tyre that I couldnt seat using a normal track pump.

I remove the valve core and use sunlight and water.

I use a sponge though to just rub the edge of the tyre close the the bead, a few pumps and its good to go.

I've never had an issue seating Maxxis.  I think that you need more tape though - at least two wraps.  Then use the soapy water.  You don't have to have a compressor, but it makes life easier.

I did use soapy water and a compressor but I did not take the valve core out. I will try wrap another layer and take the core out. Thank you for all the advise.
