You can bypass the shaping policy as the protocol cannot be identified after encryption. But it depends on the way the FUP works: is it traffic based or protocol based or both?

If it's simply data/s/m/h then no. If it's protocol based then yes.

I'm presuming Getflix offers full encryption.

I kind of understand that....

Telkom (AFAIK) monitors your usage and will determine what portion you use on gaming, P2P, etc and they will throttle accordingly.

I see that Getflix offers full encryption on their full VPN option (slows down your speed apparently). Looks like I might need to reconfigure mine.

I just signed up for a Telkom 10Mbs Uncapped account @R799 a month but they have a 100Gb FUP softcap Just worried that I might be hitting that a bit too often. My son is a gamer and the size of some of the game updates are ridiculous.....

Edit: so if I can hide where the bandwidth is being used, it might help

anyone having speed issues through the getflix DNS servers? TV player defaults to HD (and unfortunately you cant specify HD or SD) and i get buffering  - but at 10Mbps i should not be getting buffering. Then on BBC the other day i got buffered (set to SD). Now it could be my ISP, but both times while it was battling/buffering i did a quick speed test and it showed 10Mbps. So it was like the connection to the BBC streaming service was slow but the local speedtest servers were not

Ok, so it seems as though they use protocol based shaping. If that is the case then the VPN will help.

On another note have you looked at Afrihost's capped offerings, They're fully unshaped with all sorts of free data.

I have a 20M line and have over 750 Gig left on a 200GB capped package. It might be worth a look.

Hi Grebel

In My Experience with the Telkom's Uncapped (i have the 4Mb version)

you can pretty much do what you want, you can do big Direct Downloads..

However your Torrents Or Peer to Peer do int the midnight to 6AM otherwise you'll be capped and then the line becomes useless..

I and my Gf are avid games, my son loves YouTube, we stream movies and Series. and my torrents are done at night and never have a issue. and this month alone my game download are at about 20GB so far..plus the usual windows updates extra..

I Don't use and VPN or Dns

so you should be fine

There's a cable fault somewhere in the Med I think, which is being repaired so rerouting may be causing some of your speed issues.

I've not had any issues, but I don't use Getflix. I realise that's not very helpful.....

My line speed has been all over the show. At around 7pm I am lucky to get 3Mb on a 10Mb line with Telkom. At around 9pm it is up over 9Mb.

I reported my fault on Sunday night. Will see what happens....

Edit: Also suffering a LOT with buffering streaming through Exodus

Noticed a slow down in speed for the last week or so in CT. No way my puny 4k line is running even at the claimed speed right now...

Just upgraded my line to 10Mb Uncapped with Telkom @ R799 a month including your landline and ADSL line rentals (Current promo they are running) but have been keeping an eye on Afrihost's offerings as well.

I see that they are offering a 20Mb ADSL line with 200+200Gb for R725/month (Excl landline)

That's not bad IMO.

Anybody have any horror stories about Afrihost? Surely can't be worse than Telkom.....
