Things are looking up...down to 106 kg...but more important...I fit into my jean pants without having to use the belt to hold the top button closed...good chance I am gona get a little heavier in the next day or 2 as I carb the f$&@@ up for Sunday...I don't want to blow out at 30 km and feel like crap the rest of the ride...I need to figure out what to take with on the ride...I have decided to only do the 69 km as I don't feel I am ready for 100 km yet...I will start putting in more effort for the Amashova so that I don't end up sitting at the 70 km again this year.

On Wednesday I took a full sleeping tablet(herbal) to try get a good night sleep...last night a half a tablet...Today my body feels rested...I might take a half tablet again tonight just to help relax.

Been strong with the fizzy drinks and junk...no coke at all...and very little junk...

I have been doing very little riding...and when I have I take it easy riding in easy gears at higher cadence...the reason for this...I find when I push myself or clock up the Milage I go on feeding frenzies and just pig out...something I need to work on and get under control.

Well done! Great news. I find the same with pushing hard, it doesn't help my weightloss, I can't do both at the same time, lose weight and ride hard, one or the other for me. But luckily, losing weight and especially for you, will contribute to your performance. Having said that though, I'm training pretty hard for the Jock and I'm also down a few kg's, so maybe it's something that can change...

But keep it up! So glad to hear that you are doing well. I am a bit nervous about you wanting to carb up though, but can't offer any alternative advice there...

Good going there.

No need to go over the top with carbs for Sunday, and remember to keep it healthy and clean. 1 good meal on Saturday evening should be good enough, then some carb drinks and a bar for Sunday during the ride should keep you going.

But you need to know your limits, and keep a gel or 2 for the late stages when you start feeling tired.

(I don't know what Sunday's ride involves, but the advice would be the same....), carbo-loading is largely a myth, however carbo-depletion the day before isn't. Just eat normally the day before, perhaps including some carbs in all meals, but no need to have an enormous plate of pasta, for example.

Remember you'll have 60-90 mins of glycogen already loaded in your body for Sunday's ride, from the day before. You can compare your Garmin's (assuming you have one) estimate of energy expended over the ride, with what you ate on the bike, to get a sense of reality? (It's complicated to do, so don't sweat it, but it's useful to compare the amount of bike food you 'felt' like eating with what you expended).

Have fun! I'm back on the bike today, first time since Sunday, after being sick. Perfect prep for the Jock Classique!

Its the Toti 69er road race. Nothing too serious. I agree that it should be normal eating leading up to the day.

For me personally, I end up feeling bloated with eating too much carbs and then struggle to take it anything on the day so just eat like I normally do.

Now you all just spoilt my fun...i was hoping for 3 days of making for lost fuel [emoji12]

As much as that is said in jest I am sure you are aware that is part of the problem ;)

This is quite interesting. this morning I weighed myself, the first time in ages, really being focusing on eating clean and only eating when I'm hungry. The scale smiled at me and I was lower than I expected. Immediately my mind went to yummy things I could eat and I realised sub consciously I'm rewarding myself with food. I'd never actually caught this thought before. so I've decided to reward myself with a pair of thermal socks instead. Our minds are sneaky, they're always trying to figure out how to get some extra evil carbs into our system.

besides a few other pearls of wisdom my Dad handed down to me one of those was 'you're not a dog don't reward yourself with food'

so this was a good week of eating.  Since Monday I cut out all sugars (that I can see or know is there) and also avoided the biscuits and rusks.

It is easy during the week days, being at work, but now the test is coming during the weekend, being at home!!!

You can reward yourself on the 16th. A pat on the back when tough climbing arrives, and say out loud "glad I lost some weight for this race!"

A hubber has the tag "nothing feels as good as skinny does going up a hill', or something similar. Who is that?

No idea but I have seen it! I bought myself a pair of thermal socks for this weekend. Since I've consciously made that my reward, I'm feeling even more determined to stay the path. I'm going to have to come up with some cheaper rewards... otherwise I'm going to have a different problem... hmmm but maybe by then the reward will be a skinny me going so much faster up the hills
