DJR Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 The flood of "A to B" race names is getting a bit stale, isn't it? Wines to Whales, Sani to Sea, Berg & Bush, Joburg to Sea,, Croc to Croc, Lighthouse to Lighthouse.......I could fill a whole page with it! Come on organizers, get creative! Come up with something more imaginative! Hubbers, feel free to give them some pointers!
Ryno. Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Unfortunately The Cape Epic is already taken...
carbon29er Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Names just match the type of riding. If you want excitement stick to the road.

Barry Stuart Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 The EPOch: an exciting race where a handful of MTB pros are dosed at random and unleashed at the front. On Fatbikes. It's up to the carbon-aided weekend warriors, juiced up on USN and other placebos, to chase them down before they make it to the finish in the parking lot of Morgan Sports Law, SA. Riders are allowed to carry firearms in case of hijacking. All riders MUST greet each other (particularly if the other rider is carrying a sidearm). All athletes must pull over on the downhill sections to allow anyone of greater skill to overtake. Pulling over uphill is not required. No results will be considered unless posted to Strava.
Matchstix Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Lighthouse to lighthouse has been around for awhile, sparkle to sparkle?
J∆kk∆ls Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 I do the Home to Work. It is usually a 5 day event. Some call it the rat race which does sound better though there is never any cheese at the end. The coolest name I have heard so far even if it isn't technically a stage race is The Munga. There is just something about that name that illlustrates the intensity of that race.

Hell and back is cool, and just as old as lighthouse to lighthouse. My bugbear is the transkaroo that doesn't cross the karoo (but is mainly in the tankwa karoo). Then the tankwa trek which isn't in the tankwa karoo but the koue bokkeveld. (I'm a geography nazi)
DJR Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 ................. (I'm a geography nazi) Yes, me too. I don't like Sani to Sea for the same reason. It has zero to do with Sani as it starts a hundred kilometres away from the Sani Pass! But then I suppose Underberg to Sea would sound even dumber!
DJR Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 Lighthouse to lighthouse has been around for awhile, sparkle to sparkle?Pretty cool that!
DJR Posted January 30, 2016 Author Posted January 30, 2016 The EPOch: .................... Very topical at the moment! Perhaps every athlete should be tested and if you are caught clean, you get banned?
Goodbadugly Posted January 30, 2016 Posted January 30, 2016 Ride to nowhere is cool too.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWtCittJyr0

But then I suppose Underberg to Sea would sound even dumber! Only about 18km or so actually, but who's counting!
