Its very hot and humid and hilly and they drive like lunatics there. I thought about it when I was there and decided that I was safer not riding.

Hire a motorbike - they are a great way to cruise around.

Just when in Thailand and renting a motorbike, make sure to take lots of photos of the bike before taking it as they sometimes would blame you for any damage, oh and there is no insurance so if any damage they might try and fleece you for extra cash.

Going to Phuket for a week. Anyone rented a MTB from a reputable bike shop? Please send details if you can assist

Forget the bike and go play some ping pong [emoji10][emoji2][emoji6]

Beware if you don't have a motorbike license and you are hospitalized due to a motorbike accident your Medical aid can reject your claim.

That's a good point, majority of people won't have a bike license, so in that case is the medical aid within its rights to repudiate a claim as a result of a motorcycle accident where you as the driver had no license?

Say a similar thing happened but this time you were the passenger with an unlicensed driver?

hire a scooter , best way to explore , especially if you're going to any of the islands . I wouldn't take my bike there. its very much a 3rd world country , shiny new mtb will stand out like sore thumb and probably get nicked..

just rent and enjoy your time there , no stressing bout your stuff

Same decision I made, everybody rides like a taxi driver.

If you do find a mountain bike there it will be cool to ride it thru the rubber plantations all the way up to the Big Buddha. Good luck finding a place renting out Mountain bikes though.

Spent a year in Thailand last year- Renting a MTB is a brave call.

The reason it is a brave call is because of the heat and the hills.

I rented a MTB up in Loas and did a 65Km road ride- was awesome but don't think I'd do it again-heat is unbearable.

If you trying to keep your fitness up take a pair of goggles and do a sea swim or take a pair running shoes and do some short runs (coconuts are amazing post exercise drinks)

If you go up to Chiang Mai there are some awesome forests and the temperature is slightly cooler- One day I was exploring up in the mountains behind the condo I was living in and came across a bunch of guys testing out new Santa Cruz's(I was mind blown)

Anyway my verdict is if you going for a short time(under a month) enjoy the culture , beer, beach's, food, go out of your comfort zone and explore (not with the lady boys) and rather rent a scooter(scooter rentals on every corner)

Flip I'm jealous!!
