Choosing mountain bike shoes

Hi all

I'm planning to buy my first pair of mtb shoes. At the moment I'm looking at a pair of Louis Garneau Terra shoes (costing around R1300).

Has anyone had a pair of these or is there a pair they would recommend? I've heard good things about the Olympic shoes but would like to try on a few pairs before buying.

My first pair of mt-bike shoes were Olympics over 1½ decades ago...they served me well ....just  as mentioned a little heavier than counterparts...the New ones are petty competitive these days.

I recently got a pair of Giro's on the CWC sale for R699 as a back up pair and i must say i'm impressed light and comfy I'm wearing them more often than my togo pair.

Im not a massive Spez fanboy...I don't even ride one...BUT, they make some awesome shoes. Have been on their comp shoe for 4 years and still in top shape. Cost about 1300 years back.

Might not be the lightest but nothing wrong with Olympics and good value for money, bought mine (MTB and Road) about 4 years ago and they are still in good nick.

Thank you all for your input. Where do all of you shop for shoes? Especially for Specialized shoes, I can't seem to find any online?

Buying shoes online is a risky business - getting the size perfect is unlikely - rather go in to a spez store and fit them there.

Dont think they sell spez online on sa - www.sidionline.co.za for sidi shoes

Three important considetations:

1. Comfortable fit and easy to clean

2. Must also be light and good for walking

3. Have sufficient grip (softer rubber sole) for rocks or getting over slippery surfaces.

......and yes, I use the last gear allowed.....walking!
