So I've been toying with the idea os starting my own online parts shop for a while.

I don't have much cycling experience, come from another sport.

I do how ever have passion for cycling

I also have 30 years of IT experience and had my first online shop in the 90's

I have infrastructure to host site

I have technical staff to build and maintain site.

I have startup capital

I need

Either a partner/s or staff with cycling contacts

Ideas of what everyone out there would like in a local online store

Ideas on look and feel

What would YOU like

Cool idea. Good luck with it.

- A site that has correct stock levels. (I've had more than one sale reversed from a specific store because I order something and then they decide they can't actually get what I wanted- I now don't care how good that particular site's prices are, I won't shop from them)

- A site that has current pricing.

- I'd want something that is easy to navigate and has simple check out options.

- I also like it when it is clearly stated on a site that they're meeting industry standards on security/encryption/etc.

- Encrypted database (if you can do that. I know that can be done on internal databases, not so sure about internet facing ones if I am honest)

I have some experience with encryption compliancy, although I don't think I'll be able to start with FIPS 140-2 level 4 I definitely will encrypt all communication and the database to at least AES

The touch and feel I will need some help on, how about examples of what you like, they don't need to be cycling sites.

I don't do too much online shopping, but one thing that might add cred to a site would be to have original shots of the stuff being offered as big specials rather than pics snaffled off the manufacturer's website. I have seen some instances of bait marketing with items that "Wow, they sold out seconds after we posted them on the site...great deal, hey! Sorry you missed out, but how about this..."

Not to burst your bubble but any components sale in south africa you need an physical shop with workshop otherwise the distributor wont sell you any stock.

What would be the justification?

Par example Does Buycycle or Easybike have a workshop? Or any other SA based online retailers that I can't think of at this moment.

I can't believe that's the case.

Definately not the case.

1 more challenge I'll need to address.
