2016 Prices :(

Hi all, currently have a Giant XTC carbon hard tail 26" and it's about 7-8yrs old! I am a social Spruit rider regularly and grew up riding trails in Zim

Last year I had a sniff about for a Specialized epic but thought 28k was steep unless I jumped both feet in and started to race a bit

Needless to say, knee deep, I am in sani this year, ashburton Clarens marathon and magoebaskloof mtb challenge in November!

So begins hunt for a bike!

My word have prices gone wild!!!!!

I have called around quite a few shops hunting Momsens, swifts, specializeds and Giants and found myself off piste looking in the high 30k territory! Looking carbon, min shimano xt, dual sus etc! I like the idea or epic/camber setups and comfort vs speed trade off and min 100mm travel

Two options

Spez epic carbon comp 29er demo 36k non warranty! Standard specs shimano xt shadow etc and the ever so appealing brain

Brand new '15 cube ams 100 HPC Race

Full carbon dual fox float CTD rear, front rock shox reba RL front remote lock out, rear manual 3 stage. XT front to back fulcrum wheels

Help from those in the know please or other options to chuck in the kitty please! I am leaning towards an understated quality cube with a ready to go and do nothing to approach but am new to the self build game so would I get to build an Ali pyga for similar etc

All help welcome and apols for long winded question

I am also interested in the Cube AMS 100.

What do fellow hubbers think of the bike? Comparing its suspension with that of a Vipa, my current bike?

All the reviews talk of Euro mtb design?

I was impressed with the build quality and the Pinkbike article, jut confirmed that Cube is a great brand in Germany.

So the epic is a demo and thus no warranty! Spoke to a few bike shops and almost all said best avoid it and stump for new or look elsewhere! Appears there are one or two horror stories around carbon demos

I think the camber sounds great but equivalent spec to the Cube is 58k and I simply can't justify or afford that outlay until i am semi pro [emoji39]

I went to test the Cube at Trailheads at 4 today, but alas 2 hours too late! She has a new home! Sean at Trailheads was super helpful advising me what route to take, oh and they gave my Giant an awesome service by the guru Justin and the lady there too.

Tracked down one more AMS 100 HPC RACE in Bloem for a bit less cash too

Deliver will be 35k to JHB

So here goes nothing

Now any advice on peddles and shoes pls, want to keep my Shimano MT40 set on the giant for my daily work trek

Cube FTW. My mate and his missus love theirs. Real quality kit. Besides, there are far too many Spazholes out there already. Hat, coat, door...

Used concerns me with warranty and potential recourse issues

However, seen some lovely evil twins and sworks that I would loooove

I really dont understand why people are so concerned with warranty. If you are a as stupid as i am on a bike, warranty isnt going to help if you smash your bike on a rock and snap the frame. JUST INSURE IT!! then whatever happens, stolen, broken, lost they pay you for a new one.

So a bike shop told you to rather spend more money on a new bike then a demo model...i could have told you that they will tell you that!

If the prices are too high for you budget and you dont want to give on spec buy secondhand (thats what i did - even though my budget was not nearly what you are looking at) or bite the bullet and increase budget.

Stupid question

What is wrong with your current bike? 26" doesnt count

Our fellow hubber hlbeckley fell ill to upgradetitus. We all know there really is only one cure.

Cube is the only answer here.

I have had a number of Cubes over the last few years and I don't see myself riding anything else soon. Brilliant bikes and best value for money.

My previous Cube was the AMS 100 and it is fast ! And would be my choice for stage races.

On the Stereo 120 HPC at the moment which is supper fun.

The biggest problem with Cube is that once you start you wont know how to stop.

Heheh thanks guys

Ok in no order

Current 26" hard tail will break my tail on S2C

Bike shop had a few used and no new to sell me so was against there best interests....so too it as they just friendly honest bunch

Second hand was very tempting but I wanted the new bike smell

Pulled the trigger on the AMS 100 HPC 29er that was in the classifieds! It's enroute as we speak and for the price, tho not what you would call cheap, I got a lot of bike

Pics to follow

Need pedals and shoes now! Have shimano M41 SPD shoes and they really hold the water [emoji23]

Want to keep these on the giant for my daily ride into Sandton
