I ask this as the whole "Enduro" vibe took off like the clappers and riders with more money than sense bought into this in a big way.

Some have taken to trail/AM riding and are "upgrading" to the newer shinier bikes for the season, others have realised that they will never ride these bikes close to what they are designed for and are reverting back to 100mm/120mm travel marathon/trail bikes.

I say the above, as there has been a slew of medium to high end AM/Enduro bikes up for sale in the second hand market as of late, with very decent build kits and at very good prices.

Your thoughts

If you look at the international forums then 120-130mm and 650b seems to be the next big thing.

That is the bike I would get if I could .... or a Pascoe .....but the Kona get's my heart beating a little faster

I know exactly what you mean. Not too long ago there was a small trance for 16k.

An absolute bargain. Hell that would leave enough of a budget to murder it out into a seriously capable machine. I was ready to pull the trigger just because it all made sense in my head. But as beautiful as the trance is. She doesn't tug on my heart strings quite like this. And while I'm not aiming exclusively for the process she still represents something I'd rather have. Every opportunity that comes along for a used bike has me making sommetjies and weighing the options. If something perfect for me comes along I'll know.

Yip .... but watch out for slacker and more aggressive 29'ers in that travel bracket too.

Have you chatted to Dialled ... .they might just be able to make a plan for you on a frame or with a couple of odds and ends?

No I havn't. Of course it has occurred to me. I'd probably save a few bucks by getting Bibi to throw a Stage on that bike too instead of opting for a pike. I feel like the end result will also be a little more special. Just don't wanna bother anyone till I'm serious enough to take the plunge. I've saved up this long. Might as well soldier on till can afford it comfortably.

These in plus format and as Hairy says, slacker 29rs in 120-130mm setups.

... exactly the reason for me giving my trusty old Tracer a new  set of wheels. Ready for another 5 years.

That's a great bike and is always on the list of wants.

Ja, that bike just puts the biggest smile on my face every time I ride it. Just can't it over my heart to replace it with one of these #longerlowerslacker jobbies. :D

I think the OP is trying to negatively influence the market by making people question their purchases thereby scoring himself a pimped out carbon Enduro bike for cheap.

Sneaky bastard

I'd like to know where all the small framed 130-160mm trail bikes of 2012-2013 disappeared to. The nomads, slayers, metas, tracers, sb6's and so on. That short burst of 26inch trail bikes that set the enduro bandwagon in motion before the 650b became a thing.

Our trails are stating to look like someone emptied a box of smarties on an ant hill and the classifieds are flooded with nothing but front derailleurs. I'd say his chances are quite slim.

Its great to see how Enduro is growing, and its all because of the #FUNDURO nature of the discipline. Its great to see so many guys out there riding and just having fun. I think the classics have lost this as they are catering for a mass market in this day and age.

That being said - there are Enduro bikes and #Enduro bikes ... each that will suit a different riding style.

To be honest - I would say a 120-130mm travel 29er or 650b full sus (Santa Cruz 5010 or Pyga Stage Max for instance) are ideal for most enduros in SA.

However if the riders want a more aggressive bike that they can do some regional DH on too then you need to look at the 150-160mm travel market with slack headangles. However these bikes are too much for general riding in SA my Nomad is FAR too much bike for SA's trails - but i bought it for the colour and would not swop it at all

The amazing thing is how capable the new big travel bikes are - they climb ok - they descend like a DH bike, and are comfy enough and light enough for all day riding.

I would think that the market will have a few older model trail bikes from before the #Enduro revolution coming up at good prices - and at the current market these may be good deals - but you cant beat the geometries on the new crop of bikes ... so just burn that credit and buy a newer bike with great geometries.
