True test of a Full suspension bike and it,s rider .This is still a MTB event .If you don,t like graspolle ,there is always Babbas .My condolences to the Hard-tail riders .I am happy the event stays true to it,s reputation .The cooler weather was a blessing !

I understand what you are saying, but can you honestly say you enjoyed it? Not the chalenge, the polle itself.

Maybe I should stop blaming the route and start training again. :D

There is no defense for having grass polle in your race.....I truly loathe them. Hard day on the bike, pushed the first hour a bit hard and paid for it in the last hour. Very little easy running in the first 2/3 but awesome scenery and almost all rideable.

Apart from grass polle my only complaint was getting out of the car park, took nearly twice as long as climbing the monster

Easy solution to the latter is to drink beer longer in the beer tent

Complicated puncture repair left me with 1,2 bar in front tyre .I think it helped absorb the polle

haven't done a technical MTB race in a while and this was a great race - all kinds of terrain to challenge you - first one on a dual sus and I loved the bike eating the terrain for bfast

Loved it - ill take grass polls any day over the office - just saying

The Monster never disappoints!

great day out, possibly went out a little quick and had little twitches starting towards the end. Starting at the front of B batch was probably the best thing, so I didn't get caught up in the "racing"...  :whistling:

Doing it on a dual this year is much much better than a HT (last year)!

You definitely notice it after the race that you're not completely stuffed. Took ages in 2015 to perk up and feel slightly human again.

Happy with knocking just over half an hour off the previous time, even though the route was shorter with less climbing.

2015: 80km, 1650m, 4h21

2016: 74km, 1430m, 3h48

Comparing last years winning time to this year:

Men:

2015: 3h27 Erik Kleinhans

2016: 3h26 Pieter Seyffert

So not really much in it, although Erik was 10m ahead of the group from 2nd in 2015.

Ladies:

2015: 4h04 Robyn de Groot

2016: 3h38 Robyn de Groot

Was a little tricky when the distances merged, hitting oncoming traffic wasn't fun and overtaking was a little more challenging.

The mowed grass and sandy sections are part of this race, just like the climb, just grin and bare it...

Overall an awesome proper mountain bike race as usual!

Back next year.... for sure!

The graspolle was not fun at all... Will only considering  doing it again on a dual suspension. Really did not enjoy the last section where the route join up with the 30km. Cant pass them because of the back markers coming head on. Nearly took out a lady around a corner.

It was a 41km effort with 730m of climbing.

Dual carriage was a stupid idea. Almost got taken out by a 70km rider bolting down the hill on the wrong side of the track: you?
