Tokai murder

I got a Whatsapp this morning from my mate telling me there had been a rape at Tokai. It seems he was mistaken as I read this morning that a 15-year-old  went missing yesterday and was found dead in the Tokai forest. Anybody have any more detail on this? Upper or Lower forest?

Man, that is just dreadful.

I was going to post this earlier, but then i wondered why should this horrible occurrence warrant it's own special thread. How does location make it less or more heinous.

Was a niece of one of the ladies in one of our whats app groups, really really really sad.

A real shock to the system, real feel for the family. :(

From the messages we got, she was not found dead, died on way to hospital.

True.  All murders are shocking. It just puts it into focus as it's an area normally considered safe. I put it in this thread due to its locality.

please note. it's not a criticism of the thread, it was more an internal 'struggle' that i expressed. Ppl definitely need to know it happened and thus be extra vigilant.

I see people venting at SANParks and SAPS. I know blame is a natural reaction so I can look passed their anger and understand that it has hit home, in a space associated with peace. There are those however using it as their soapbox for their issues with these groups, this I find completely disgusting!

Best we wait until the news agencies stop falling over themselves to get the scoop. The info will be released soon enough, until then from me, just respects to all involved. Those too who helped look for her. I can't imagine their distress, let alone the family's. So sorry!

I have to admit I stayed up for a long time last night thinking about what that poor girl must have gone through (I'm with the neighbourhood watch and assisted with keeping people out of the forest while SAPS were busy) - 5pm on a beautiful day in Cape Town and you tell your mom you're going to jog ahead for some exercise...

Not much SAPS, Sanparks or anyone else could do. It is a very unfortunate fact that a large number of people in SA have a very warped idea of the value (or lack thereof) of a human life. I just wish the community could get their hands on the people involved and give them an idea of what it feels like to be at the mercy of people much stronger than you so intent on doing harm.

An absolutely horrific and very sad incident. RIP.

"Community", I've seen this work before when that couple was mugged in 2013 on the trails. Will send PM.

Perhaps the SAPS and Sanparks could patrol the area after hours?

Most of the users during the week do not frequent mountain paths during office hours.

There are so many people willing to set up security on the mountain at all hours.

So sad that someone out of nowhere can be so cold and evil and take a young and vulnerable innocent persons life so easily in such a way!
