Dirtopia MTB Events Posted March 14, 2016 Share Event Name: Die Burger MTB ChallengeWhen: 31 July 2016Where: Stellenbosch, Western CapeCategory: MTBStellenbosch delivers largest mountain bike event for all level riders.Die Burger MTB Challenge brings more than 5000 outdoor enthusiasts to this beautiful town every year, and in 2016 it will take place on Sunday, 31 July. One of South Africa’s largest one-day mountain bike events, it is renowned for its challenging and picturesque Wineland routes and will once again be held in association with the Simonsberg Conservancy with six scenic mountain bike routes to cater for all levels of riding. For the third year riders will have the option to participate in the 50km route which leads to the south-eastern part of this scenic Boland town, but this distance will have a different route in 2016. Although, 8km longer, it will still be an easier option than the 42km route. Riders should not be fooled by the distances. Meurant Botha of Dirtopia, who has been designing and maintaining mountain bike trails for nearly 20 years says that the routes will pass through more than 50 farms in the area, giving riders the opportunity to tackle some of the best and most beautiful trails in the country. At the finish line there will be kid’s entertainment, food & drink, medals to all finishers and a lucky draw where a bike can be won! ABrooks Posted April 16, 2016 Share Hi all This will be the first time I ride an event and I am not sure whether I should do the 50km or 42km. How difficult is it to ride the 42km compared to the 50km? I live in Stellenbosch, but see that the route is only open on the day of the event. Is there a different route here that will be just as challenging as the 42km one?
stefanx Posted April 16, 2016 Share If I was you I would do the 42km instead of the 50km. Reason being, the 50km is longer in distance and a bit more flat, but the 42km has more climb and lekker singeltrack. You would appreciate the 42km more than the 50km. This is just my thoughts, so feel free to ride any route you like. This is a awesome event and you will enjoy any route they have to offer. Rouxenator Posted April 18, 2016 Share This year the 50km is going to be different, not going past Spier. I'm super happy to be doing my 3rd 75km this year.

The 50km last year was an endless slog through mud, muddy grass and sand. Ferro
Aaron_B Posted April 19, 2016 Share 75km should be based on current seeding but what happens is the 75 never really garners much interest and anybody who feels they're fit enough and pays the fee can do it... Sadly. Last year when I did the 60km we passed nearly 20 75km riders quite quickly. Oufy MTB (Roadie)

However, you can motivate why you feel you have what it takes to do it. Like I said, it's never fully subscribed. Sparki 1
Rouxenator Posted April 19, 2016 Share You need to keep up the performance if you want to do the 75K again. I had a good 75 in 2013 but slacked quite a bit in 2014, so last year I had to pull a fast 60 and it seems to have paid off. That extra bit you do on Dirtopia's home trail up and down Klapmuts hill is hard but oh-so rewarding. Be sure to check their trail run calendar and do a 15K trail run at Del Vera when you can. lerouc Posted April 19, 2016 Share First year i will be able to do this event. Every year this falls in our annual Namibia holiday. This year we get back the week before the event. Looking forward to it. Will only do the 40km though. Dont know how much will be in my legs after 2 weeks of sitting in a bakkie everyday, sleeping in a tent and eating and drinking the whole day.
