How? Just no meat?

for me it works. if you can adjust your diet - that's better IMO than having to resort to drugs.

Make sure a medical professional checks your BP. As said before, those DIY jobbies can be inaccurate.

If you are in fact diagnosed with hypertension, I see very little from your quick bio that you can do to alleviate it, other than by medication.

I'm no doctor, but there are a lot of different classes of medication that treat hypertension. Many have negligible side effects. Not saying you'll have to, just saying it's not all that bad taking meds.

Missed your calling, that is for sure. Similar words from my GP. On meds now and the only drawback is for those who apply and worry about testing(?). Ridaq (blocker) is on the list of banned substances, since it will mask any prohibited performance enhancing drugs you may be taking. But hey, by the time I get to the finish line the only 3 spots on the podium have been taken. (wrong side of 50, see). I ride for me, not for the mob who swing opinions. No adverse effects like lethargy or anything else for that matter. Wanna hear about my 2:46 at Value Logistics?

High Blood Pressure is not something you want to diagnose or treat yourself without a proper medical examination. Trust me I realised that after a heart attack when I thought I was fit with  low colesterol and a bit of high blood pressure. Talking from experience - go get a proper examination to establish the cause and remedies.

If been to the gp a few times... They normally say keep checking it regularly but for now you are ok...

Best wishes and hopefully you find something that works for you. Prolonged High BP is like erosion on the arteries and heart-muscle and valves, eventually something has got to give. It is the sad reality.

Single most beneficial change you can make yourself is to reduce your sodium intake. Not just less salt on your food, but check each and every factory made bottle / can / take away meal / ready cooked meal / sauce biltong / chips / popcorn / anything McDonalds / bacon / ham / smoked anything, because virtually all of those will have massive amounts of salt in it.

Yes, and don't forget strokes and aneurysms. Don't leave it too long.

All the best.

I got diagnosed with high blood pressure about 3 months before the Epic in 2010. Went to the doctor to get his blessing that I'm ok to compete and hey presto....no sir, you have a problem. :P

Been on BP meds ever since and no hassles so far. BP back to normal and absolutely zero side effects from the meds. So ja, have it checked out properly. Not something you wanna play with.

Whatever you do, you need to see a specialist.

That's properly dangerous BP.

I am now expert but it runs in my family too.

Hypertension will give you a flipping stroke or heart attack

Guys I am not shooting down GP's but after my experience my suggestion is go and see a Cardiologist for a proper detailed check. I did a "full medical" with my GP a week before my Heart attack. ECG, blood pressure, cholesterol and everything else, including blood tests and he gave me the OK. 9 days later I was in Intensive care and very blessed to be alive. OP PM me and I'll refer you to the best Cardiologist - and very close to you

Mine is in upper range of "normal" - first thing the doc said to me is eat less meat.

I'm veggie - have been for 12 odd years - so then he said it must be hereditary.

I've managed to keep it under control without drugs.

RoboJedi - Ignore me. Was thinking about this while i was making supper last night and it occured to me I was talking total bollocks. It's cholesterol i was thinking about not HBP - sorry.  go tuck into your steaks and stuff

Ok so im all clear from the cardiologist... However he says in the next 5 to 10 year he foresees me getting hypertension.

My heart is strong and he is happy with the ekg and with the "sonar?" Scan he did.
