"Sitting in the bunch" at World Tour level, is NOT like sitting in the CL open seeded bunch at Emperors.... #justsaying

Many of us could and actually do end up doing the Epic, not many of us would be able to "sit" in a World Tour bunch if the opportunity arose.

I watched a video by some Aussie dude who appeared to be in pretty good shape.. He has a pretty well subscribed cycling channel.. He lasted 2 minutes trying to keep up with the sky crew going for an easy climb up some hill in Australia

How does Witkoppen compare to Col du Tourmalet?

Just curious, because it ruins my 94.7 almost every year. And it's flippin' steep.

Witkoppen is much more difficult...

Very true, but an Epic rider will also not be able to sit in the pro rider's groups.

Having driven up the Galibier and Ventoux personally, I can tell you I could get up to fifth gear. My driveway I have to use first. It's MUCH steeper.

Whats the ratio that people use for so many km on dirt is equal to how many km on road....if the epic breaks that ratio then it would be tougher......i think the munga for its pure non stop pushing can also be claimed as a very tough race to be rated up there

He was an amazing cricketer but do you seriously think Gary Kirsten could compete in or complete the TDF? Hahahahahaha. Funny. He wouldn't make one day. Don't even start on the consecutive day story.

the epic isn't a patch on the TDF.  My guess is that only the top 5 or 10 teams in the epic field will finish the TDF within the time cut-offs, nevermind chase down breakaways and launching attacks to unseat the jersey holders.

on the second part of your question.  it's possible that a mtber can contend contend for a good GC position in the TDF.  Jean Christophe Peraud is a ex silver XCO medalist at the olimpics and came 2nd in the TDF after Nibali two years ago.  A guy like Sauser was in a similar league to Peraud, however I think it would take a few years for an epic rider to adapt his style to become a GC candidate for the TDF, so straight off the cuff I don't think guys like Platt or Sauser will have a chance even of a top 20 finish in the TDF.

It's hard to predict what someone like Froome will do in the epic, but I've got a feeling he has a 90% chance of winning it if he'd focus his season around it.

He would first have to learn to look up[emoji6]

Well Chris did start out as a mountain biker. So he might actually remember to well, not look at his stem. :whistling:

Would be interesting to see how he would do if he entered. The bigger question would be who to have ride with him?

As for your idea of having Sagan and Schurter racing the CE together - that would be too much awesome!

Or John Smit....
