Santa Cruz Tallboy C with Pike

Hi All,

Some tech help please.

Let me start by saying that I don't have the cash to buy a new rig, so trying to upgrade what I have.

Not a XC rider and enjoy the technical trails.

I have already put a Monarch RT3 on the bike but looking to put on a Pike as well. My first thoughts were at 120mm, cause I still need to climb, which I'm not good at. But....how would it behave at 130mm?

The dual air would be perfect but only the revelation comes out at 100-130, and only to Oder in SA.

Any thoughts?

C.

I went from a fox 100mm to 120 mm RS sid .Huge improvement .I had the opportunity to put a pike 140mm on ,but glad i did not .With 140mm in front you are going to battle to keep the front end down on steep climbs

False, I don't battle to keep the front wheel down ever.

It does depend on your fit though. I just dropped one spacer and flipped the stem, then I had the same front end height. It did slacken the seat tube unfavorably, but I am able to fully negate that by sliding my seat forward.

Edit: pic added. This bike blows my mind every time.

I am unfotunately maxed out on my bike and cannot move my saddle forward .I use an angled seatpost already with saddle all the way back .A Tallboy should have 120mm fork travel at least .The Hightower appeals to me a lot with a slacker fork angle and longer travel

Can a 2015 tallboy 2 cc accomadate a mrp stage 140 ? Is the axle to crown length not to long? Currently running a 60 stem with saddle most forward.

The mrp's a2c in 140travel is 548,is that to much would this comprise the frame at all. Also it's 51 mm offset and as far as I can find sc recommend 46 offset also a2c is quoted at 521 on 120 mm fork . Tallboy LT a2c is quoted at 548 with 140

Any help would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Especially those who have tried it with success or epic failure. Mrp can be put to 130 as well.

Recommended travel for the Tallboy 2 is 100-120mm. You could probably get away with 130mm but 140mm might be pushing things a bit far. This also depends on rider weight and the type of riding you do.

I wouldn't be as bold as to state "False" :whistling:

The only reason you not popping wheelies is because your saddle is slammed as far forward as possible. If you ran a middle to aft position or even a setback post and had to ride up a "steep climb" as in +15% you will have your nose on the stem trying to keep that bad boy from rearing up on you. (Trust me I know :cursing:)

yea I see have recommend 100/120.. There are a fair few threads uk specifically where guys say they have 140 up front. I would definetly be happy worth 130. My fork can be bumped down to this and I think it's a good no for such a bike. Climbing doesn't become an issue at that ravel. My genuis & trigger both came with 130 upfront and they were good climbers.

My concern is the slacker offset due the longer a2c and the offset. Don't want to hurt the frame or risk cracking it. I know there is built in tolerances but does this push the envelope ?

You should be perfectly fine running a 130mm A2C but if its worrying you you could always use a angle headset to steepen the head angle.

140mm is overkill in my mind with 100mm out back.

If you don't mine me asking: What's your weight and riding style/level?

I know Greg Minn often runs more travel than the recommended max on his bikes. Tallboy 2 130mm, Nomad 170mm, Hightower 29er 160mm and no offense but I don't think you going to be riding like him eg:(25m Tabletops on 130mm travel bikes) :whistling:  so you should be fine.
