oh, how wrong you are :)

With that logic, AM hardtails shouldn't exist...

BUT....

AM hardtails' geos are designed to accomodate the effect of longer travel forks.

yeah, but the extra 10mm / 14mm a2c or whatever it is will not affect it negatively, except maybe in the berms / corners due to a 5mm higher (or so) BB, and in extreme cases on steep climbs.

The one gripe you commonly read about is the very low bb ( I know that makes it handle like it does) and how often you strike the pedals. Never ridden a bike that I strike the pedals as often as on the tb.

Imho, The only benefit of more travel up front would be on really steep descends due to the increased stack height. I would say the tb being a trail bike should be capable of 99% of trails out there. Remember all your angles(headtube & seat tube) will change, and 10-20mm here or there is the difference between two frame sizes. Your reach is also affected by a higher stack/handlebar height, so to counter that you either need a longer stem or set back on your seat, which have their own affects.

But, each to their own and everyone likes different strokes. You're the only one that knows what that itch needs.

All you guys that want to run 140 forks on your Tallboys - you'll end up with a hybrid that is neither fish nor fowl. Just make me an offer on my size L TBLT cc frame already so I can upgrade to a Hightower....

So did a ride today with my tb with the mrp set at 140 ,after I got an email from santacruz usa saying that recommended travel is 120, but and I quote "We don't suggest running the fork that long, but you shouldn't run into any risk at 130mm."

The bike was soooo freakin awesome I can't believe the difference the mrp made.

I am however now going to send the fork in to bump it down to 130 or even 120.

Reason being that when you start climbing steep rocky terrain the fork floats and lifts to easily and although it is live able I am hoping 130 will be the perfect balance . Everywhere else it is f'ing brilliant it really is.
