...at the mercy of landowners...

There has to be a line and it should be set by the managing authority or mountain biking will remain at the mercy of the landowner, all while "over-zealous self-elected police" try to set the standard  :whistling:

People who have been photographed for rogue riding and later identified have been allowed to join the club, yet absolute newcomers to the sport are socially branded "rogues" and treated poorly for the inefficiencies of a faulty day permit system. The club needs to step in to set the standard with people found to rogue riding, and intervene, if not with the landowner about their chosen permit system, then with the riders who are venting at the first sign of transgression in fear of losing their trails.

Create an etiquette around self-policing or something.. if left, it could only become more bitter.

I think the main issue here is don't act like our JMPD !!! So you "caught" somebody that missed the box and now wanna show everybody what a big shot you are ?

After all is said and done, we're still stuck with the South African mentality of "every man for himself" and "see what we can get away with". THAT is the problem.

You can implement all the measures you want, the real problem is attitude.

Patch, I was on the Tygerberg trails yesterday, in the 3 hours I was there (just yesterday) I saw

3 people without bike boards flew past me on a members only corridor on 2 seperate occasions.

I saw trail runners on the singletrack just beyond the sign that clearly said no trailrunning

I caught a guy in the process of crossing over the fence into the closed corridor from Conties to Hoogekraal (as I rode past he suddenly put his bike down and started doing some serious investigations on his chain and then some leg stretches as I rode into the distance so I can't be 100% certain)

There are a general disregard for the rules from a lots of riders, the bullies & trail prefects are not the biggest problem here. If keeping to the rules are hard for you then it is maybe better that you stick to the spruit where access are not at the mercy of landowners who can take it away without any justification.

Our access to the trails should never be taken for granted, I will take over-zealous policing of the trails over not having trails every time.

I was refering to the bullies here, on the Hub.

And the actions you describe are very different to those of the OP....

Trail bullies might not be the biggest problem, but they are a problem nonetheless?

You think you have it bad, try take an easy ride in the Spruit.... Spruit locals are worse than locals at surf spots. Eye opener, but that a whole new discussion,

Like I said if somebody is BLATANTYLY breaking the rules, they are the dwis.

If somebody admits to a honest mistake yet you keep hammering on and become rude, then that makes you the dwis.

I feel your pain, I had some **** on a Sparkly Specialized interrogating me just as I wanted to start my ride. He was a marshal it turned out and I "was" up till then a paid up member with a Tygerberg number broad BUT I have a few boards on the front of my bike and the Tygerberg Mtb club one is unfortunately at the bottom because I ride there maybe 5 times per year. The **** took my number and I got a warning from the club via email... so now they can stick there club up there a$$es.

This behavior is exactly why landowners dont want MTBers on their land. I bet you if you covered up your car's number plate and a speedcop pulled you over you wont call him a ****t!

This would never happen on the Spruit. :whistling:

Hahaha... saw this 2 seconds after my previous post.

Not sure who would win the "I am better than everybody else award" between a Spruit local going for a PR or a dude with an IM tatoo on his ankle

Disclaimer: Not everybody Spruit Local is a knob, but you know the type, so dont get your panties in a knot. Just a little joke :)

There is a rule that says your TMTB board must be visible on your handle bars at all times. You as a member are aware of this rule. If you couldn't be bothered to abide by it then perhaps it is best that you ride elsewhere.

And why is this so difficult for people to do. Even if you have 8 clubs boards, take 2 minutes get valcro and get the right one in front. I think people that dont do this has way more serious issues than abiding by the rules of a mtb club.

one question, why would a paid member intentionally cover his board as per the analogy?

Bit of a difference here... Club marshals are not law enformcement officers.

...... With a revenue stream of over R2million ....... but with no investment in adequate access control or a proper temp permit system members and day visitors are exposed to potential conflict and unnecessary animosity.

There is no better way to say it !!!!

If you come to Karkloof ( a much smaller club) a lady is employed to collect the day license payments and issue permits. Members can focus on being hospitable to visitors

..in his post he says he was about to start his ride. He was a paid up member after all, sure he would have obliged to a friendly reminder.

exactly my question, if you have 5 boards and you have blue board in front why not put red infront when you ride the red trails. Why intentionally have blue in front?
