I've just heard from a mate that they are charging entry at the gate again for people going to ride the Hero Adventure trails. AFAIK this is in contradiction to the contract that Hero have in place.

R30 conservation fee, to access the Cradle Moon Conservancy at the maingate, R20 trail fee payment to Hero at the entrance to Heia.

All together R50 .... this is for quite some weeks now the procedure, as fare as i am aware off.

Thanks NicNacDH.

Can anyone confirm this?

I saw the new gate off of the main road. Wasn't aware that they charged for entry there.

So let's understand this then.

The Cradle Moon Conservatory is an initiative that was created by the new owner of Heia. It did not exists when Hero entered into the 10 year lease agreement that they hold and would therefore not form part of the trail fee that they charge.

I see from the above mentioned thread that the owner stated that Hero has not made any payment towards this conservancy fee in the last 9 months. Seeing as the lease agreement was concluded before the creation of the conservancy and the observed lack of Heia Safari to work with Hero Adventure I can only assume that this is another tactical move by Heia to get Hero to leave.

I am not against the Conservancy or the idea behind it. What I am against is the way that Heia are bullying Hero and trying to tarnish the Hero brand name.

You have it summed up exactly.

This mr dodd ort dot or whatever his name is, has been trying underhandedly strongarming hero out of there, under the guise of being the great rescuer of all animals and land as far as the eye can see.

GO to buffelsfrif, best MTB trail I have seen in Gauteng by far. Not these zig zag type of trails to push 4 km trails into a area the size of the rugby field.

Bit far from JHB side, but well worth it. R40 entrance and long route is 50km.

Riding at Heia today, place looks a mess, dunno whats with all the armed guards though.

Personal bodyguards for the owner I would imagine . . .

I love it at buffelsdrift, just a shame it is so far for me (from the vaal),really a shame that heia is such a shmuck up now, dunno why the new "nature concience" owner wants to re-invent a wheel. Anyway, didn't ride at heia, went to hobby park.

I rode at Heia on Saturday, I was adamant to support Hero there without a cent going to that clown.. I got it right... but  it was my last ride there till Scrooge is out of the pic.

He's completely wrecked the trails and any attempt Hero make to maintain he just conveniently does something nearby that wrecks the trail even more.

I don't need Heia, we're spoilt for choice out here. Hobby, Kings, Avianto, Cradle... drive a bit further, Northern's, Buffels (which I'm amped to try out ) and of course Van Gaalens to name a few.

Sad... to go from one of the country's top bike parks to what it is now.

Jip,it is sad indeed, the only animals he truly care about, are those ones stamped on the banknotes.

I have never been there being a Capie, BUT I can't see what the issue is from what's been represented here.

Clearly the Hero guys have created something decent, just arrange a deal with them for the remainder of the contract.

Cyclists happy.

Hero happy.

Conservancy has more foot traffic for restaurants - happy.

Win win all around? Calling them mickey mouse operators with a ridiculous lease contract really shows mr Dott's true spots - and he's successful in the hospitality industry so should know better. Why not just call his gate entry fee ridiculous and ignore it then?

or maybe I'm missing something?

Was there about a month back, had to pay at the boom and again at the gate. Rode blue and the new owner had planted new trees on the end of the route!! Half of the route had been carved off for a conserviency - this included the big water bridge.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Got a request today from Hero's ill informed lawyers, that I am to recapture the Conservancy's rhino and place them back into their small boma so that the mountain bikers can enjoy an uninterrupted ride on the red route. Please help me with this one?

1. Would real mountain bikers not prefer to ride amongst rhino in a reserve on the urban edge of Jhbg?

2. We are attempting to create a rhino sanctuary by relocating 5 rhino out of the Kruger area where we are losing one a month, to this safe haven here in the Cradle Moon. Would you not say this is a noble effort or should Hero get their way and we put the rhino back in cages? Are most mountain bikers not conservationists at heart?

3. The rhino were relocated to Aloe ridge and now only as we create the open area are they able to roam over more properties, including the red route, properties that we bought on an auction of a liquidated estate, with no mention of any claim to mountain biking whatsoever.

You guys figure out just who the baddy is in all of this and one day when you come out from behind the pseudonyms, give me a shout.

Thanks

ANDY DOTT
