Thanks, the issue lies when I am moving up in gears i.e. From small 11t upwards. The shifting is ok when going down

what is it doing when going up? If this setup you have is exactly as your friend's, and his is working just fine, then I'd hazard your gear shift cable tension needs some finessing.

you cant mix sram and shimano rear deraileur and shifters, the shimano uses a 1:1 actuation where Sram uses 2:1

isn't the ratios the other way around, as in SRAM 1:1?

Ya, I removed the 15 and 17. The guy at the lbs said that it is because of the various different parts on the cassette. That can apparently influence shifting. The thing is I have a friend who has the same set up and his works just fine

OK so just for clarity when you removed the 15 AND 17 I assume you must have placed a 16 in their place since you can't take both out!

What shifter are you using?

I have taken it in numerous times to get the gear set and there are still issues. The only difference between his set up and mine, is he has SRAM S7 and I'm running Shimano Deore shadow.

Sorry for dropping in like this.... has anyone used the GX 10 speed RD... how does it compare to predecessor... also,

It is only available in long cage, dies that mean my chain needs to be made longer as I am currently on a medium cage x9.

Why not just start a new thread?

If you have a mini tea set saucer in the front there is no need for a dinner plate at the back

30t front and 42t back = spin out galore I can just think (overkill)

Wow I missed the 30T up front. Yeah 30T 42 does seem like madness. I'm running a 30T in front because I'm on a 11-34 cassette and it feels just right (okay I do spin out sometimes but it a price I'm willing to pay). My 34 was a little too hectic. Maybe if I get a bit fitter again.
