These types of things happen every day. I agree that it was (seems so at least) badly handled and could have been done differently, but when it comes to your livelihood, farmers are always going to go after "pests".

The paying guests and visitors are also part of his livelihood, as mentioned already by others its the way it was done that's the problem

The choices, o the choices!

Seeing Bambi torn limb from limb while screaming for her life

or seeing a bad doggy shot and send off to doggy heaven.

Ja, maybe a small caliber rifle with a silencer to take out the mutt over a distance, I'm OK with that.

You cannot always safeguard your child from the realities of life, especially in Africa.

Whoa! Looks like a .50 BMG.  I want one, but only too make Zupta and his cronies nervous.  The muzzle blast from that thing will make big boys cry.

Talking of problem animals.  I frequent some of the farmer forums, and according to them the increase in wildlife on farms these past few years also resulted in a huge increase in the numbers of baboons, jackal, caracal and warthog.

Whoooo calm down silver! The very nature of a Ferrell animal is it's unpredictability.

Imagine the story, if the dogs attacked the child... 50m in less than 4 seconds... No adult would respond in time.

Sorry the kid had to witness this... But I keep thinking about the outcry had it gone down differently. Not to mention the child actually being mauled by Ferrell dogs.

5 min to go and fetch the shotgun out the safe??

Rather get the kids and guests out of danger first if that's the case

Reading those comments on the faceshit page has really opened my eye's to how many vegans there are in SA. Maybe not the most PR friendly way to handle things, but given the outcry of people after those two Pits chowed that criminal in Cape Town last month you'd think the tree huggers would catch a wake up.

Bet you every single one of the people calling for a boycott will be riding there before the year is over.

Lots of armchair angels on that page. Till a kid gets his face ripped off. Then the owner is a d**s for biding his time to sort out the issue.

This is my thought too....what if the dog DID attack a child, what would have been said then about the owner and what did he have to pay in medical fees then. I have had my fair share with uncontrollable dogs (and that is when its owner is around), I wont take ANY chance with a wild dog, hate me, I don't care, but I would have done the same.

Yea, i ride there alot, there are always stray dogs about...suppose its the nature of the beast(the trails cover alot of farmland). Those baster hunting dogs are not pets...don't think your cute spaniel doing a begging trick. They are more jackal imo.

Skiet hulle.
