Finally i can close this thread...apparently there is no missing spring nor has someone taken the spring out the lever.

IT seems that shimano sent out this batch of levers...which if you detected the problem within the year of purchase could replace under warranty...if not sorry for you.

just to clear something up...i was never looking for a freebie...like the fulcrum wheels...i was happy to pay the R200 + then another R200 then return to the lbs 4 times and then pay  R650...just to fix the problem...to make it right... as with these levers...i would have been happy to pay a "fee"  to exchange the levers.,,even just the affected component.

Where did you get the info? and have you managed to come up with a permanent fix yet?

"permanent fix"...yes...i cleaned and polished it and it will now become a very expensive wall feature...if i dont ride it i dont hear the buzzing sound.

to answer your question...no there is no "fix" the levers have to be replaced at a cost of R6600.

back to riding my 2002 model trek 1000 :)

how loud is this 'buzzing'

Loud enough to irritate the crap out of me...

if you ride with a racetech chip on the front...about the same...which doesnt seem to bother most people...i filled the chip with silicon...to stop the noise...and since taken it off and strap it on my shoe.

2 x 11spd STI's going for R3k at Chain Reaction. Buy the set and keep the spare for when the other side gives in.

R1500 is not a huge "fee" to have your bike on the road again.

Dont think it counts as a feature if its a Merida... :P

Thats not a nice thing to say...but i suppose if i was riding a specialized or cervelo (5 stage wins in the TDF) i wouldnt need to hang the bike on a wall...i hear specialized is sold with decent components...the quality control must be far superior [emoji6]

I have better idea...when you get your Di2 groupset we can swop levers and i will pay R1000...you wont even notice buzzing sound[emoji12]

I'm leaving shortly to go test ride an Ultegra Di2 bike. Only problem here is that the STI is already fitted to a bar so I won't be able to help you out.

i just need the lever not the whole STI...we can meet when you go for the test ride and do a quick swop...nobody will even know... and if it is a new bike they just put in a warranty claim.

why didnt i think of this before...time to go test ride new bikes with ultegra Di2..anyone got a tool to remove the lever...just need to borrow it for a few days :)

I read somewhere that a thin bead of silicon sealer between the levers stopped the buzzing for some.

I have decided to do what i probably should have done months ago...or when i first identified the buzzing noise...the bike is going in to one of my lbs...they will strip the Di2 and return it to shimano agents ...who will them do an assessment and advise accordingly.
