Winter Training

What you really need to be training, and you could probably ask your significant other to help you with this, is to violently rip the duvet off you in the early hours of the morning.

That is by far the hardest part of winter training. Once you are up, the rest is cake.

Since the Argus, I've started doing crossfit twice a week (Mon, Wed evening), and jogging on Saturdays with my wife (currently at 7.5km at a very comfortable pace).

I also go to spinning classes twice a week (Tue, Thu evening), and try to ride on the road on Sunday mornings.
And hopefully a nice relaxed MTB ride on Sunday afternoons with my wife, once I've got our tubeless setups fixed.

I'm hoping this variety helps me to keep training through winter for a change - in the past few years only the spinning stayed constant.

Plus, with my first Amashova in Oct and not knowing what to expect, I don't want to leave it until August again before I really start training.

So would 2x interval session during the winter months be a good idea long before the next race comes along or not? And could riding on a stationary bike at the gym for example also be regarded as base training if it's not possible to get outdoors due to work and other commitments?

yes and yes. Intervals on a wattbike are also far easier to do...

2 sessions won't make much difference, but 2 per week will [emoji12]

Yes, meant to say two sessions per week with weight training for the legs thrown into the mix just to spice things up for the winter months.

haha not soo hot outside at 5am... damn, soo much for "winter training." Haven't been out this entire week.

Next week is going to be fun in Gauteng. Cold front hits Sunday, rainy on Monday with near-0 temperatures at that time.

Looking forwards to some Midlands pedaling next weekend though!

Bite the bullet. Buy a powermeter. Best workouts of your life will be indoors going forward.
