Had a great day out today. We did the 25 km, and though it was easier than last year, a big thank you to the organisers and marshalls. All round success in my books. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Next year we'll both do the full marathon.

P.s. those crunchies in the back of the bakkie at the 2nd water point, around D in the A-Z singletrack, were fantastic!

Best crunchies ever. Almost turned back to get more...

Best route for a race ever. Loved it from start to finish. Do people still cycle these trails (other than in an event)?

So awesome. Yoh!

First 30km was fun. But last 20km i did not enjoy. Looong jeep track climb and jeep track descent. Also the wind was pumping!!

That was pretty brutal! Nice route, albeit a bit monotonous (the last 20 or so km). The weather conditions made it pretty tough! Completely different weather up there on the mountains compared to in Cape Town this morning.

Well organised with great water points.

I lost my tool bottle with all my gear in it today at around 15km. Informed the PPA guys at the finish line and didnt have high hopes. Within 2 hours i received a phone call to say they found it. One of the PPA ladies who lives close to me met me at the shopping centre and handed it to me. The slab of choc i handed her was hardly thanks enough. Thanks Tru-Cape and PPA...and whoever made those crunchies!!!!

Very nice race.  The single track was amazing.

On a gnarly descent toward the end, the guy in front of me slipped a wet tree branch.  Well, so did I, but I came off much better than he did.  I felt sorry for the bloke as he took n nasty hit to the head and shed loads of blood.

Not far from there another fella was walking holding his arm.  Looked bad as well.

Just two points I would like to mention for the organisers.

  • Put that long climbs in the first part of the race. (i m o )
  • Non of the water points had cups ready with drink.  I understand the wind was strong, but have just a couple ready to grab on the fly. This was a timed race and at the last water point I asked for water and 4 guys looked toward one another who we going to pour this one....

They did that in 2014, when we went towards the Steenbras side we ran into the back markers of the 25km route - it was very unpleasant. The way it is now is excellent, as long as you know the hard stuff is at the end so don't go all out in the first 25. I passed so many people on the climbs, one that flew past me in the first half. Well, until I had to push my bike.

Yip, that's him. Both our rear wheels washed out from under us on that slippery branch....

a Proper Mtb race. Was hoping for 3 hours but forgot how brutal the 2nd 25km was. Managed 03:06. Thumbs up to organisers.

I agree.  I had a concern before the race that the markers would be blown away, but were pleasantly surprised.  Other organisers can take a page out of the Tru-Cape book.

Same here, those climbs felt never ending.

I put my bike on Gumtree twice before the summit..... :D

Did a 3:05.
