At the MaPa southern sky 24h race at Parys a rider lost his live during the night while riding over a poorly lit bridge (purple bridge 1). Condolonces to his family, hope a proper investigation is done as to how this tragedy could have been prevented.

Very sad as I've said and I don't want to start a negative course for the thread, but I think saying " poorly lit bridge" is not really fair on the organizers as it is the riders obligation for sufficient lighting in a night race, I've done a few 24hours and honestly I would say it's one of the best lit courses, I done a lap last year with my light barely throwing a beam, the organizers are extremely passionate about the sport and they ride the route also I would say the toppie is in his 70s easily, last year he clocked a few laps while running the event with his team

Not sure as to how it exactly happened, but a family member of mine saw the rider laying on the ground, and the "marshal" asked her to help. He had no communication with the medical team, nor the event organisers. My personal view is,that the bridge in question was very poorly lit (being painted purple doesn't help either), and the emergency response was not up to standard.

News from the event: Guy over cooked it on a bridge. Ambulance was there within 7 minutes. Was moved to a gov hospital. They were moving him to a private facility when he passed away en route.

Apparently his team is continueing with the race in his memory.
